A little something that most people don’t know about me is that I desperately wanted to be a ballerina as a kid. I took ballet lessons for years, loving every second of it until I got into middle school and quit because…you know, me morphing into a somewhat lazy teen. Sigh.
Now that I’m all grown up, my appreciation for dance has come back with a vengeance. Every chance I get, I seize the opportunity to see dance presentations at the National Arts Centre (NAC). Ballet, musicals, modern dance…you name it. If people are dancing to music, Dominique is a captive audience.
This week, I’ll be headed to the NAC to see quirky and inventive Flemish choreographer/dancer Lisbeth Gruwez in AH/HA.
Ms. Gruwez will be performing in AH/HA, a collaboration with her creative partner, sound artist Maarten Van Cauwenberghe. In this performance, five dancers (Gruwez among them), investigate the mechanics of laughter, dealing with “how laughter helps to overcome feelings of solitude”…how hearing laughter “resonates in the soul more deeply than laughing alone”.
I’m extremely excited to see this performance and I’m thrilled to share the excitement with my readers by giving away two tickets to AH/HA at the NAC. Contest details below!
