Ahhh…I can’t say enough great things about Shepherd’s – Ottawa’s destination for beautiful, finely made clothing. One of my favourite stores for years, it is one of the last stores I know of that specializes in quality design, stylish offerings and more sparkling jewelry than any girl’s heart can take.
When the kind staff at Shepherd’s reached out to me to model in their fabulous Ooh ‘n Ahh Fashion Show, I jumped at the chance! I was even more thrilled to learn that this event would be benefitting the Youville Centre.

The Youville Centre motivates, educates and nurtures young mothers and their children to become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. Marlene Shepherd (owner of Shepherd’s) has been fundraising for the Youville Centre for years now, and it’s easy to understand why. Helping young mothers provide a brighter future for themselves and their children, the Youville Centre uses a holistic approach to address the various needs of young mothers, including helping them complete their high school education, develop strong parenting skills and set future academic and personal goals. On top of this, the Centre provides addiction and mental health counselling, breakfast and lunch programs, co-operative education and career counselling, links to housing assistance, medical clinics and much more.
Through their dedicated support services, the Youville Centre has seen young mothers they have assisted go on to finish college and university and enjoy rewarding and profitable employment.
We can all help support the Youville Centre’s innovative programs and services by:
- volunteering (volunteer application online at www.youvillecentre.org/supporters/volunteers);
- donating;
- provide in-kind donations such as bus tickets, diapers, infant and toddler clothing, etc. (full list here).

Here are some pictures from this amazing night! I haven’t laughed this hard in a while! Sam Poole, Shepherd’s General Manager and Style Director is a laugh riot!! Together with hostess extraordinaire, Leanne Cusack, they kept the huge audience in stitches all night!
A huge thank you to Shepherd’s for hosting this event at their beautiful Trainyards location! Be sure to visit their store – you’ll appreciate the amazing clothing and accessories along with the fantastic, tailored service their knowledgeable sales associates provide!

Working in maternal and child health, I was thrilled to be a part of this! I would love it if you all took the time to check out the Youville Centre’s site and donate! Thank so much for reading!
