With spring right around the corner – in exactly 10 days, to be exact, it’s time to start thinking about prepping skin for spring. I’m talking a good exfoliation, lightening up the skincare routine and being extra diligent about using a good sunscreen.
With the change in seasons, you can expect a few changes in your skin. This handy little guide will help you transition from the dead of winter to warm spring days with as little stress as possible on your skin. And to make it a little easier on you, I have partnered with Concept Medical to offer up a HUGE skincare giveaway to one lucky winner. Keep reading for details!

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub

The harsh elements of winter can leave you with a lot of buildup on your skin including dead skin cells which dull your glow and make you look a little sallow.
Ramping up your exfoliation is key to brightening up skin. A personal favourite exfoliator of mine is SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. It rids your skin of those dead cells in a gentle and effective way thanks to its heavy-hitting combo of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, lactic acid, citric acid and malic acid. Its jojoba-based spheres also scrub away dead skin without leaving your face feeling sore or stripped. Use this exfoliator 2-3 times a week for best results.
You can also opt for facial treatments such as microneedling or light dermabrasion to bring out your glow. If you do so, don’t forget to follow up with a great moisturizer containing sunscreen.
Lighten Up Your Moisturizer

As the weather warms up, you won’t need the same heavy duty moisturizer that you were using during the cold-weather months. Look for moisturizers that are lighter and smoother that still contain sunscreen. These won’t sit on your skin or feel oppressive like moisturizers suited for the winter months.
Towards the end of winter, I notice that my skin is a bit dehydrated, so I still keep my eyes peeled for moisturizers that do a great job of hydrating skin.

SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream is an ultra-rich cream that I use sparingly on problem areas like my forehead that dries out easily. One of the main ingredients in this cream is sodium hyaluronate, a derivative of hyaluronic acid which naturally occurs in the skin. It has the ability to retain up to 40 times its weight in water, packing a serious hydrating punch.
This cream leaves my skin looking dewy and plump. A small amount of this cream combined with a light foundation provides a “perfect skin” look light enough for the warmer temperatures.
Love Your Sunscreen (Even More)

Right now is the time to ramp up the use of your favourite sunscreen. After hibernating for months under parkas, hats and scarves, being diligent about applying your sunscreen once it starts warming up is a non-negotiable.
People are at a higher risk for sunburns during the spring because its tough to tell how strong the sun’s rays are when it’s mild outside. Be sure to apply a good sunscreen each morning and reapply before any outdoor activities.
SkinMedica Total Defense + Repair Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 34 is light and effective, and does a great job of hydrating skin without feeling heavy or sticky.

Thank you, Gary!
Hi,
Could you please provide the skin products and hair products for hair breakage. Thanks

Hi Ann! Thanks for reading! I’ll be sure to get started on a post with some recommendations for you. Firstly though, if you are using heat tools in your hair, I would stop. Heat sucks all of the moisture out of your hair causing it to dry out and break. Stay tuned for the blog post!
Good morning,
Alright, thanks!!! Im so excited about getting my hair health.
Hey!
Great recommendations there! Thanks for sharing! Which BB cream would you suggest for someone with an oily and sensitive skin? Most BB creams I have used make the skin further oily and some of the matte finish ones make my skin look cake-y.

Hi Anushka! I don’t use BB creams. They all make my skin greasy! Sadly, I cannot provide a recommendation. I have yet to find a perfect one!
