Ok – so, I have to admit…a small part of me is enjoying this time of year. While the last few days have been sweltering here in my city, the evenings and mornings have definitely cooled off…a sure sign of autumn.
Along with pulling all of my light sweaters out of storage, I’ve also grabbed all of my scarves. I started using my Une écharpe, Une vie scarf again as it is so perfect for this time of year. Made of cotton, it’s ideal for September weather as it is simultaneously snuggly and airy, and pairs well with all of the neutral colours I’m so fond of. It’s also perfect for wrapping around my shoulders in my office, which just so happens to be the coldest office space I have ever worked in.
I generally do not cheap out while buying scarves. Something about luxurious fabric wrapped loosely around my neck and shoulders makes me swoon. I always opt for “statement scarves” too. It’s just how I roll (I bought a scarf from Etro made with gold thread). When I received my Une écharpe – Une vie scarf, I almost died. I’d never seen such intricate designs before, and this tribalux scarf was so well-made and eye-catching, I wore it daily for weeks.
The best thing about these socially-conscious “wearable works of art” are that they are proudly hand-made in the Philippines by women whose art empowers them and gives them a living wage. Une écharpe – Une vie strives to improves lives and stimulate social change for these women. Furthermore, each design is significant to the tribe or village the weaver is from. She weaves from memory, creating a completely unique piece. Feels good to look good while giving back and helping others, doesn’t it?
