As I sat at a local café people watching, I was amused. My dear little city – a home I feel extremely connected to and proud of, is not the most stylish of places…but it is coming along. I’m amused because I’m still seeing cheap, nylon fanny packs on Dad-type tourists, ill-fitting suits on businessmen and public servants rushing around in skirt suits with Reebok Princesses – very “Miranda Hobbs” circa 1987.
Now, when you are doing important work serving the people and bettering their lives like the middle-aged lady who just walked by in a grey skirt suit with her grey New Balances on, maybe topnotch fashion isn’t the priority. Every now and then though, it’s nice to put something on that makes you feel as good as the work you’re doing.
I met up with a friend recently, a successful full-time blogger and mom of two. The girl always looks great. Doesn’t matter if she is running to the grocery store to pick up diapers or filming a segment for her new TV show. In fact, her casual chic is probably the best around.
During an after work trip to the grocery store to pick up dinner stuff, of course, I ran into an ex-boyfriend who turned out to be a complete and utter waste of space back in the day. While the relationship was short-lived and I count my lucky stars that he never called me back after Date Four, I sometimes wondered what happened to him. I hoped that he had turned into a balding, beer-bellied nobody. As I reached up for the toilet cleaner in Aisle 6, there he was. Tall, muscle-bound, with cool guy hair and nice tan. F*CK. That is just not fair. On top of him aging like a fine wine, I looked like a greasy mess, stained shirt and all due to me wolfing a piece of chocolate cake at a “Congratulations! You got a new computer monitor!” work party. I aborted the toilet cleaner mission and bolted out of Aisle 6.
That day, I promised myself to always look and feel good while out of the house. When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, good things happen. It’s just a fact.
So, with that experience, I decided to up my “casual chic factor” and took a few pointers from my stylish blogger friend. I ditched the Lululemons and grabbed my new bomber jackets and skinnies that fit like they were made for me and put them front and centre in my closet. I also ensured there was a tube of my fave pinky beige lip gloss in every purse and coat pocket…just in case.
Lastly, since I like to be comfortable, I put away my Birkenstocks that were way past their prime and reached for my killer Muroexe Atom Grey trainers that elevate any casual chic outfit. The greatest thing about these stylish shoes? They fit like gloves…possibly the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.
Muroexe, a Spanish shoe company, is in a league of its own. All of its designs are clean and simple, and the company focuses on creating a few excellent designs each year, as opposed to many large shoe companies that churn out tons of mediocre looks each season. Quality is first and foremost on Muroexe’s mind, which makes sense as I have been wearing these to death, even during 8K walks along our beautiful Rideau Canal, and they still look brand new.
If you’d like to see their full range of styles, check out their website or contact Press Play Not Pause to find out how you can get your hands on a pair.
Muroexe can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and online at www.muroexe.com
