I snuck away for the weekend with Ryan to my home away from home, Toronto. It was great. A weekend full of waking up in our cozy hotel room, nice and late, pondering what we should do over pancakes and coffee.

I wanted to just take it easy all weekend. Roam the Toronto streets, do a little shopping, sip a little wine and joke around with Ryan my bestie. No worrying about instagramming, promoting a post at “just the right time of day”, squeezing one more event into an already packed schedule. No wondering if cat-eyeliner and pink eyeshadow was a little too much for popping into Timbo’s. I was gonna do “me” with zero worries.
I have a pair of silver Loreni booties from Aldo that are EXTRA AF. And I mean it. I wear them out and they elicit lots of “Omigod. WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE?” and a few “Sick boots, babe.” and of course, my favourite “Nice astronaut boots!” I’ve been dying for the chance to properly shoot them, but you know…the 9-5 has been getting in the way.
Now, I’m not one of those super organized IGers (which doesn’t help), who plans her outfits for days…searching for just the right location to shoot just the right picture. I’ve got enough on my plate to worry too much about getting enough millennial pink pieces to shoot, or finding just the right bouquet. Over the past few months, I’ve been learning to slow down, to live in the moment more and enjoy the present. It’s amazing what you can experience when you look up from your phone.
Back to the boots though….When I got dressed that morning after pancakes, I said: “This is the day. I’m wearing my happy, silver boots with my normal outfit and I don’t care how ridiculously extra it is. This is me and my silver boots, peeps. Take it or leave it.”
The Hubs and I strolled through the Eaton Centre, popping in and out of stores. Salespeople oohed and ahhed over my Lorenis while simultaneously asking if they hurt. “Nope! Great, right?!”
We walked out of the mall into a beautiful little courtyard where I thought I better capture my carefree silver moment. As the husband snapped away, a guy walked by and yelled out “Nice astronaut boots!!” That made my day. I knew right then and there that my outfit was perfect, along with my new favourite shoes of the year.
