Happy Diwali, Everyone!
Today, October 30th, marks the Hindu festival of lights. Our wonderful next door neighbours are of Indian origin, and bring over plates of treats they make to celebrate this festival of light. I love this festival in particular actually, as it has such a beautiful significance. Celebrating the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair, millions of people observing Diwali cover their homes with diyas (lamps and candles), making for a dreamy, beautiful and surreal effect.
MAC Cosmetics is honouring this joyful holiday with a limited edition eyeshadow palette comprised of Diwali-inspired shades of gold, red and blue. The palette itself looks fiery and reminds me of bright fireworks.
I’m normally drawn to neutral colours suitable for my skin tone such as chocolates, beiges, bronzes, and golds, but when I opened this package and saw the array of happy colours, I got pretty excited!
For such bright, fun colours, the pigmentation is great and each shade goes on very true to what you see in the package. For those “scared of colour”, this palette also includes some amazing MAC bestsellers such as Amber Lights (bronze shimmer), Embark (matte chocolate brown) and Carbon (matte black).
The palette consists of the following nine shades:
- Rice Paper
- Goldmine
- Amber Lights
- Coppering
- Cranberry
- Embark
- Humid
- Deep Truth
- Carbon
Here is the look that I created using Coppering and Cranberry on the lid, Humid (green) in the crease, Deep Truth (blue) under my eyes, Carbon as an eyeliner (I wet an angled brush and dipped it into Carbon for a softer line) in addition to MAC Liquid Eyeliner, Amber Lights on the brow bone and Goldmine on the inside of the eyes.
This limited edition palette is available in select MAC stores and is available online here.
