A weekend getaway to Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle Hotel with Ryan couldn’t have come at a better time. Ryan was gearing up for his upcoming trip to Australia and things in my own life were crazy busy.
It was like the Universe knew that I needed a little break and offered up a stay at the lovely Westin Harbour Castle Hotel. We happily accepted, booked our train tickets and off we went!
To say that I was “excited” to stay at this large and luxurious hotel was an understatement. When we arrived, we were both taken aback at the gorgeous lobby. Ryan was doubly excited too. Inductees to the Hockey Hall Of Fame were staying at the hotel (and milling around the lobby), along with a bunch of Finnish hockey players. Sadly, not being a hockey fan, I was more interested in heading up to Toulà, the hotel’s fabulous restaurant on its 38th floor. It offers some of the best views in Toronto, including the CN Tower which is just next door.
We headed up to our room and were delighted to see a dish of chocolate covered strawberries and gooseberries, along with gourmet brownies. I was on seventh heaven on the 12th floor!
After polishing off those goodies, we got dolled up and headed up to the Toulà Restaurant. Dinner consisted of Gnocchi Gorgonzola and one of the best striploin steaks ever. We sipped cocktails while overlooking Lake Ontario to the right, and Toronto’s bright city lights on the left.
The following morning, we peeled ourselves off of the cozy and patented Westin Heavenly Bed and got ready for the day. Ryan and I planned on having a great brunch at Colette Grand Café followed by a little shopping. Fully fueled after brunch, I dragged Ryan to Tiffany & Co. on Bloor to see the beautiful window displays. He groaned when I hint-bombed that I’d love a scarlet-coloured bag when we passed Gucci. Hey – a girl can try, right?!
As a reward for putting up with that shopping attack, I took Ryan for a late lunch to one of his favourite spots, the testosterone-fuelled Real Sports Bar. He desperately wanted to see the Raptors vs. Celtics on the ginormo screen at Real Sports Bar while downing wings and beer. Thank God I’m a good sport. All joking aside, the Real Sports Bar is my kind of sports bar! It’s like a glam pub! It’s super loud though – be warned!
Later that evening, we met up with my sister Erika for a killer dinner at Marben, one of my favourite Toronto restaurants. After a couple of rounds of El Diablo cocktails, we gorged on oysters, squash & apple soup, the Lamb Duo and Johns Burger. Incredible.
We then called it a night and parted ways. I was so tired that the only thing I could think about was that Heavenly Bed.
Monday morning rolled around and we had a few hours to spare before boarding our train back to Ottawa. We decided to work off the 20,000 calories that we ingested the night before, and hit up the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel’s beautiful fitness centre. I logged a good 5K run on the treadmill while Ryan hit the weights. I hate to sound like a bore, but getting in a workout really was the best way to top off the weekend.
Speaking of workouts, the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel offers RunWestin, guided group runs, running routes, etc. during the spring and summer months. Forget your workout clothes at home? The hotel will lend you New Balance clothing and shoes for a small fee so that you can still get your workout in!
We decided to continue the workout after checking out by walking to the train station which is conveniently located only three or four blocks away. We said our goodbyes to the Westin Harbour Castle and off we went back home to reality.
I want you guys to share my amazing experience at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel too. I’ve partnered up with the hotel to offer you a complimentary two-night stay at this hotel! Read on for contest rules!!
