When my cousin Addie confirmed that he would be visiting Ottawa to take in Canada’s 150th birthday, I was thrilled. When The Lincoln Motor Company offered up the luxurious Lincoln MKX to drive down to Syracuse to pick him up…I knew it was going to be a really good trip.
In true Lincoln Motor Company fashion, this SUV made my jaw hit the floor. Leslie – my good pal at the dealership – promised me that it was going to be a good looking ride, but I wasn’t expecting this. To say this automobile has “smooth lines, shimmering features and total class” is an understatement. As Leslie ushered me into the vehicle, I couldn’t stop giggling in amazement.
Picture it. Ottawa, June 30th, 2017. A gorgeous, taupe coloured Lincoln MKX Crossover opens up to reveal supple cognac-coloured, perforated leather. The dash looks like that of a jet, with its large display, beautiful, ergonomic lines and inlaid walnut. This car was “so Dom”, it’s crazy. In fact, I had a moment where I considered how much trouble I’d be in with The Husband if I just bought it. “Better to ask forgiveness than permission” – the little devil on my shoulder whispered into my ear. The annoying angel on the other shoulder though took over as I adjusted the 22-way seat and got the massage feature going. “Aaahhhhhh” I exhaled, as I selected “Reverse” on the Push-Button Shifter. This crossover SUV is sooo cool.

I picked up my sister and we hit the open road. “WHOOOAAAAA!” – Alice exclaimed as she climbed in. I laughed maniacally as I got some tunes going with the Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay using voice commands. I mean – this auto pretty much takes care of you completely! Can I just take a moment to appreciate the sound quality of the stereo system of this car??? We listened to the music of headlining acts coming to Bluesfest and noted that the sound was rich and clear thanks to the Active Noise Control. In addition, the easy-to-use hands-free features were mind-blowing! To not have to pull over in order to answer a call or respond to a message is a game changer (my little car does not have this so it’s a real luxury). It felt completely safe – like driving a really fast, beautiful car that felt like a warm hug! Just “Say the word” indeed!!
Sailing down the 401 to the I-81 South was a breeze. This car handles beautifully – truly. The Lane-Keeping System ensured I was driving in a straight line as my sister tried to get my attention to check out a wild turkey taking a walk along the road. As I couldn’t help staring at the turkey, the Lincoln MKX provided a series of wheel vibrations and lane-keeping alerts that warned me that I was starting to drift. The MKX applied gentle steering torque to direct the vehicle back on the straight and narrow. I’m a great driver – promise. No tickets or accidents here ever. *knock on wood* Cut me some slack though. It was a majorly huge turkey.
On our way back from Syracuse, we hit a major storm. It was scary. Wind, thunder and lightning, the rain came down in buckets in a flash. We were on a section of the 401 where it was impossible to pull over and wait out the storm. Thankfully for us, the MKX has Lincoln Drive Control with Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD). Despite the horrible conditions, the Lincoln MKX’s sensors constantly monitored the vehicle’s suspension, body movement, steering and braking. Furthermore, the electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) adapted to the scary road conditions and compensated for the slippery, wet highway. We all felt really safe in the car – but breathed a sigh of relief when that craziness let up.
A major plus of this winner of a vehicle was its incredible fuel efficiency. Syracuse is a 2.5 hour drive from my house, and the Lincoln MKX sipped gas, only using a little over quarter of a tank for the journey. Better yet, it only requires regular fuel, which led to major savings at the pump. I needed that extra cash too. Addie is a poutine lover, and I promised to keep him poutined-up for the duration of the trip.
Another really cool feature that I discovered was “Auto Hold“. Auto Hold offers the driver relief when you come to stop at stop signs, long traffic signals, etc. When you bring the Lincoln MKX to a stop using the brakes, the Auto Hold system will “hold” and release the brakes when the accelerator is pushed. How cool is that? Here I was using my right foot like a sucker at red lights before this beauty came into my life!
Last but not least, the Lincoln MKX‘s looks! This car was GORGEOUS. It looked tough and cool, yet was still very classy. The Adaptive LED headlights glittered at night, the panoramic Vista Roof was enormous, and came out really handy when we were lucky enough to watch the Snowbirds fly overhead while driving downtown to Canada Day festivities, and the vehicle was the perfect size for me. Not too big, but incredibly roomy inside, I managed to get a serviceberry tree home from the garden centre in its huge cargo area. Incredible.
My trusty current vehicle is getting old and repairs are starting to pile up. I’ve started doing some research into what I’d like in my next car. Lincoln Motors made it easy for me. Quiet, fast, loaded with fun, helpful and safe features and completely luxurious, the Lincoln MKX is now top of the list.
Shopping for your next car? What are you looking for? Tested out any Lincolns? Let me know how you loved them!
*This post is in collaboration with Lincoln Motors of Canada, but I’m obsessed with great cars, so all opinions are my own.

Cheryl – I was stunned when I drove the first one a few months ago. I knew it would be nice, but I guess I thought it would be stuff and old. Absolutely not the case. I truly fell in love and started wondering how I could scrape together $68K to buy the sedan version. LOL!
You just made me want to test this out. Luxury, roomy, and good gas mileage all wins.

wow this car looks nice and the features you mentioned are really good. I’m pretty sure it drove well too. My friend had a similar crossover and it was smooth
I like the fact that your description of the car was very descriptive. I’m so glad they had features that keep you safe in the storm. I like your dress and shoes! Tell your cousin Hi, my granny name is Addie.
We rarely see this make or model in the UK. We mainly use German, japanese, french & italian cars here. Ford is the only American car really. I always dreamed of having a lincoln truck back in the day.
Great review of this car. It’s a beauty. I’m in love with your outfit though!
The interior is amazing. I love that leather color it’s to die for!!!!
