On this particular day, I was feeling sassy. I wanted to wear something that made me feel great, so I reached for my gold Style Maven shoes.
I don’t wear high heels very often. My back, which likes to masquerade as a petrified block of wood, screams at me when I even look at heels. 1800 physiotherapy appointments later, my back has come to terms with my love of heels.

The art gallery was calling my name as a new exhibition was rolling through. “Enough with the jeans and boyfriend tees!” I said to myself. I wanted to dress up.
Culottes seemed fitting for my gallery visit with a black baby tee (baby, not giant boyfriend). It also felt like a Ruby Woo sort of day. This is how I transition into fall. I darken the wardrobe and opt for the bold lips. To tell the truth, I wanted to do a dark berry, Morticia-like lip, but the thought of wading through my 5000 thousand lipsticks to find my Nars Liv Lipstick exhausted me.
The pièce de résistance? My golden Ariah shoes from Style Maven. Since I received them, I was itching for the opportunity to wear them. I was sick of waiting for the perfect opportunity, so I said “Eff it!”, and slipped my tootsies into them. The gallery is very worthy of nice shoes.
Gold, strappy sandals for daytime though? You think I’m crazy, right? Maybe I am. Maybe though, I wanted to bring a little gleam to the overly conservative Ottawa streets at 12pm on a Monday.
The key to wearing heels that look like they are straight out of Studio 54 is just to wear them with confidence. Just do it. Don’t worry about what anyone is thinking. When that Judgy McJudgerton wearing a tired t-shirt tucked into cargo shorts eyeballs your shoes with all sorts of stink eye, raise that chin and strut like you are on the runway. Who cares? You look great.
As you can see, the Ariahs are hella pretty, but what’s even better? They are comfy! Seriously! The shoes are made of a soft, pliable vegan leather, and the insoles are nice, puffy and soft. Definitely my jam. The shoes are so comfortable too that I could run to meet my gal pal, Alyssa – even up the gallery’s epic, uphill ramp. For once in my life, I didn’t pray for death after wearing heels for more than five minutes.
Style Maven is now my go-to choice for on-trend heels that make my feet happy. Their website offers a totally gorgeous selection of of-the-moment heels. In fact, acquiring the Blue Ellas are next on my list of to-dos!

So sorry to hear about your back, but I do think you look amazing in these golden heels. Definitely works with an all black look.

Thanks, Cheryl! When I run regularly, the back pain goes away, thank God. But then, you know – “running”. Sigh.
