Alrighty – I have a confession: I am a sucker for cheap, ol’ drugstore mascaras. I have no problem dishing out thousands (sigh) for handbags, I will buy alllllll the pinky-brown lipsticks on the planet, and money is no object when it comes to candy, but I just can’t shell out big dollars for mascara. No – I don’t know why…it’s just a struggle I can’t get over.

This changed when I discovered Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils The Curler (ooof – that name is a mouthful).
Despite my Scrooge-like approach to mascara, I love big, full, long eyelashes and love trying out new mascaras to see which ones will give me that fluttery, false-lash look that I’m obsessed with. This mascara I received from Yves Saint Laurent was one of the latest I was sent to test out. Upon reading the reviews, I was excited. I should also mention that I also received Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Flash Primer. Grabbing them both, I hit up the nearest mirror to try them out.

Firstly, I applied a nice coat of the pale pink Flash Primer to my eyelashes. This product contains Ceramid R and Panthenol – two ingredients which promise to revitalize and fortify lashes. Flash Primer works to amplify the effect of the mascara by boosting curl, length and volume. I also noticed throughout the day that this mascara stayed put…something that doesn’t happen with my cheapo drugstore favourite. Usually by dinnertime, I look like Dom the Raccoon.
Once the Flash Primer dried clear, I applied a good coat of The Curler Mascara. You know, I always thought to myself that if I was stranded on a desert island, the makeup item I would make sure I had was – again – my fave drugstore mascara. Well, The Curler changed all of that – I’m serious.

It’s the perfect black. Its amazing curved applicator defines your lashes very precisely, grabbing even the smallest lashes and making them full and long. Once I was done applying, I stared at my “new lashes” which looked like I applied false ones. I vowed then and there that The Curler and Flash Primer would forever have a place in my makeup bag. Well worth those YSL dollars.

Hi Pam! Thanks so much for your support! Means a lot! For stretching your relaxer, I would work deep conditioner into the roots and leave it there after washing your hair. Leave it in for a good hour then rinse out. Follow up with a leave-in conditioner or good moisturizer like Luster’s S-Curl No-Drip Curl Activator (don’t worry, it moisturizes well, ignore the “curl” part). Every other day, add some more of the S-Curl to your roots and comb out gently. Hope that helps!
