Ahhh yesssss. The tinted lip balm. Not a sticky lip gloss, and way more interesting than a lip balm, these hydrating lip colours seem to be a glorious mix of both.
I was sick of my super chapped lips aggravated by our harsh winters and my love of matte lipsticks, so I fell to my knees and cheered when a YSL Volupté Liquid Color Balm landed on my doorstep.
During a recent visit to Sephora, I noticed these balms at the YSL counter and made a mental note to get one. As I “needed” eyeliner, I left them behind but thought about them constantly. I needed something hydrating and nourishing, but still wanted some colour, you know? My boring colourless lip balm wasn’t cutting it anymore and even my most hydrating matte lipsticks were feeling a little too drying. This seemed like the perfect product.
After receiving and testing out my #10 Devour Me Plum sent to me by the kind folks at YSL, I was sold. I made a little list for you guys too highlighting why I think lip oils are the answer to your chapped lip prayers.
3 Great Reasons To Try YSL Volupté Liquid Color Balm
They Are Nourishing
A lot of tinted balms are made with great moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba oil and shea butter. I really liked this one by YSL because not only does it contain jojoba oil and shea butter, it has Vitamin E and coconut water.
I used this balm for a few days straight and it banished the dryness. Seriously – my lips felt super soft and smooth. Of note, YSL does offer the #1 Night Rehab Lip Mask which is great for repairing delicate lip skin while you sleep.
Volupté Liquid Color Balm is nice and cooling when applied and look closely at the applicator – it’s shaped like lips! Love it! Let’s not forget that these balms smell like mango. It’s like elevated Lip Smackers minus the Grade 6 drama.
They Have Great Colour Pay-Off
This balm is highly pigmented. #10 Devour Me Plum is the sweetest shade of dark pink. Subtle and pretty, it’s not overwhelming at all but definitely noticeable. These balms are highly glossy and long-lasting, as long as you aren’t licking your lips constantly. Since they are thicker than lip oils and less oily, they stay put longer.
And with their melony-mango scent, I don’t mind reapplying a few times…not that it’s really necessary.
They Make Your Lips Look Fuller
Thanks to their high shine, they boost the fullness of your lips. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. I find this product made my lips look even fuller and sexy. Frankly, I can’t say enough good things about these colored balms.
I’ll be heading to Sephora to pick up the #1 Night Rehab Lip Mask Liquid Color Balm which is a nice, translucent pink. I’ve been looking for another great overnight lip treatment and this one fits the bill.
YSL Volupté Liquid Color Balms come in 12 shades and are available at Sephora Canada. Have you tried them? Let me know what you thought in the comments!
*A big thank you to YSL for sending this press sample in exchange for my honest opinion.
We have way too much in common! I am using Burberry’s nude lipstick and it’s a true nude for dark skin. So hydrating and soft. I loooove matte but this winter had my lips chapped, cracked and slightly blistered. Girl thanks for another great find … XO

Thank you, Debbie! I think you’ll like it and the shades are so pretty. And they smell amazing.
I got a sample of three of the colors with a recent Sephora order and it has me sold! I immediately picked up a no. 7 and can’t wait to go back for more. The price is higher than I usually pay for lip product but it really is amazing! The tint is great and my lips feel silky smooth..
