Summer is well underway and I was excited to mix up my Mary Kay beauty routine a bit! With the warm weather comes a shift in how I apply my makeup. I tend to wear quite a bit less due to the heat and humidity. Thanks to my oily skin, by mid-day, my makeup has pretty much quit. I also tend to reach for happy, brighter shades which I think look awesome on everyone during the summer months.
Mary Kay‘s latest summer releases did not disappoint! The beautiful summery colours made me as happy as a glass of frosé does (you *must* try frosé – my slushy wine concoction of choice). You know what I love about Mary Kay beauty too? Mary Kay offers a giant selection of colours AND the makeup is really high-quality. The eyeshadows are so finely milled and soft, and the colour pay off of their lipsticks, blushes and shadows is second to none. Amazing.
OK! So first up, we have a couple of heart-shaped blushes that are so pretty and cute, I have to admit that I sort of hate using them! I want to keep them as perfect as possible for as long as possible!
Beauty That Counts Limited Edition Mary Kay Baked Cheek Powders
Here we have Mary Kay’s Baked Cheek Powders in Kind Heart (peachy toned) and Giving Heart (pink toned). When I opened up these compacts, I gasped and oohed and ahhhed!! SO PRETTY! I’m a sucker for anything heart-shaped, so these were my faves of what I received!
Both baked blushes have a really pretty shimmer, and I use Kind Heart mainly as a highlighter on my cheekbones and brow bone. Kind Heart is quite light on me, so I use a light touch while applying. This particular colour though looks gorgeous on blondes and those with a lovely summer tan. Amazing.
Giving Heart, the pink-toned baked blush, is my jam!! I love pink blushes, and this one gives me a great flush of colour. Again, the subtle shimmer is gorgeous and this product can be used as a highlighter too. Absolutely love this one.
Both blushes smell delicately of rose too! Roses + hearts = PERFECTION. To top it off, these blushes are part of Mary Kay’s Beauty That Counts program. Funds raised from the sale of Beauty That Counts products benefit organizations that help women and children who are victims of domestic violence, bring comfort to cancer patiences, educate teen moms and provide food to underprivileged children and more.
Mary Kay Eyeliner – MK Black
Mary Kay’s Eyeliner in MK Black is a solid product. The pencil is nice and slim, not bulky at all, so it’s easy to hold and apply. The colour is very black (score), and doesn’t look greyish at all once on…which is something I notice with a lot of eyeliners.
The eyeliner stays put too. I normally have to remove it with a good makeup remover. I also love that it’s quite matte and not shiny, and goes on very easily as the formula is a little on the soft side. Oh yeah – did I mention that the eyeliner is loaded with anti-oxidants too? Put some on and fight those aging free radicals!
Mary Kay Compact Mini
As I mentioned above, I am loving Mary Kay’s Mineral Eye Colours. These shadows go on like a dream due to their finely milled quality. I found I didn’t need as much of my favourite eyeshadow primer when I used the eyeshadows and I chalk that up to their oil-absorbing ingredients.
The eye colours also contain Vitamins A, C and E to keep your delicate eye area looking great. I received Sweet Cream, Hazelnut and Emerald. Hazelnut is a beautiful light brown colour that I use for a subtle nude look all over my lid. On me, Emerald is a fun, bright shade that is perfect for this time of year. I used this colour to do a green smoky eye and it looked great! I found Sweet Cream a little too light for my complexion, but it would look great on very fair skin or as a brow bone highlighter for those with red, blonde, grey and brunette hair.
Also in the Compact Mini is a pretty blush – Sunny Spice. I love this colour. It’ll look particularly great when my skin lightens up in the fall, but right now, it’s a great dupe for MAC Cosmetics’ Raizin Blush – a beautiful brown blush with a hint of brick. Very flattering.
The Compact Mini is “mix and match” too. You may purchase the empty compact and select whatever three eyeshadows and a blush or pressed powder that you like. The compact is magnetized too in order to keep the products in place. Pretty handy!
Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick – Mauve Moment
Mary Kay’s Mauve Moment Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick is a favourite of mine that I reach for frequently. I love the subtle mauvey-brown colour. Highly flattering, it goes with everything and looks great on everybody. Mary Kay’s Gel Semi-Matte Lipsticks are real rock stars. They go on really smoothly, are quite hydrating and the colour pay-off is great! True to the name, this lipstick is matte but doesn’t dry out your lips at all or turn cakey while wearing it. Hate that! A really great colour and excellent quality.
Mary Kay Clear Proof Deep Cleansing Charcoal Mask
I LOVE THIS STUFF. I have spent the last week covering RBC Bluesfest – North America’s largest music festival which just so happens to take place in my fair city. We’ve seen some amazing shows so far: Fetty Wap, Gary Clark Jr., Pink, etc.
Along with rocking out nightly, I’ve been eating poutine like it’s going out of style. Yes – I hate myself. Along with the 10lbs I’ll inevitably gain thanks to my new disgusting eating habits, I’ve been breaking out due to lack of sleep, drinking too much wine and eating truckloads of delicious poutine.
This Clear Proof Mask is saving my skin though. It’s totally amazing, but that isn’t surprising. Mary Kay’s skincare is top notch. This mask absorbs excess oil and reduces shine – which is really helping me out as my skin is so shiny, you can see it from outer space. The main ingredient is activated charcoal which works to unclog pores. It also contains peppermint and rosemary extract which gives your skin an awesome cooling sensation. It has an herbal fragrance that is light and refreshing too. This has been looped into my regular skin care regimen because it definitely is making my skin clearer and brighter (so has laying off the gravy, fries and cheese curds for a little).
So, are you a Mary Kay beauty fan? What are your favourite products?
These products all look great! I especially want to try the charcoal mask – I’m looking for one that actually works.
