Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser with Saw Palmetto and Mint and Pore Purifying Toner with Saw Palmetto and Mint are saving my face right now. I have super, SUPER oily skin which is both a blessing and a curse. My oily skin is keeping me looking really young – in fact people are always surprised when they find out my age (I’llll nevvveeerrrrr telllll). On the other hand, sometimes my skin is so shiny, that I shock myself when I look in the mirror. Makeup rarely lasts past noon if I don’t apply a ton of primer and setting spray, and I was really prone to breakouts as a teen. I do not miss those days.
Now that it’s summer and the temperature is soaring, sometimes keeping my skin looking dewy as opposed to “greaseball” is near impossible. I’ve been reaching for Origins Zero Oil products to tame the greasies just a little.
When the kind folks at Origins sent me a couple of press samples, I was immediately intrigued! And they had great timing too. I had just blasted through another set of blotting papers. #greaselife The products look beautiful with their pleasing aqua shade and they smell great too thanks to the minty goodness within! I got to testing right away.
Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser with Saw Palmetto and Mint
The main active ingredient in this fresh scented cleanser is saw palmetto and salicylic acid – a known acne fighter. Saw palmetto’s skincare benefits are pretty amazing. It works to curb oil production in the skin and reduces blocked pores which lead to acne.
Honestly – these products couldn’t have arrived at a better time. I had been going to a music festival almost daily and was subsisting on poutine, corndogs and wine. I eat pretty carefully most of the time, so the influx of junk food really wreaked havoc on my skin (and stomach), and the breakouts started almost immediately.
I started using the Deep Pore Cleanser twice a day. Firstly, it’s a pleasure to use. It has a cooling effect thanks to the mint, smells fresh and heavenly, and unlike other cleansers containing salicylic acid, it didn’t leave my face feeling stripped. My skin was soft and I definitely looked “brighter” after using it for about a week straight.
Origins Zero Oil Pore Purifying Toner with Saw Palmetto and Mint
I really liked this toner! I feel that the combination of the cleanser and toner really worked to keep my skin looking less oily! Like the cleanser, the toner is cool and refreshing and worked great to remove any traces of makeup I missed while washing my face.
It made my skin look more matte and my pores definitely looked a little smaller. Thank God for that last one because some of my pores were nearing dish plate size. The toner also prepped my skin nicely for my favourite moisturizer.
The Verdict
Well, so far, so good! The breakouts have stopped (I also stopped wolfing festival food) and my skin is definitely looking less oily. I also noticed that my skin didn’t dry out or get flaky like it usually does when I use products geared towards reducing breakouts. I’m definitely going to keep using these products for the balance of the summer because they have been stellar.
This is just two of the products in this line. The Zero Oil line is really effective and I can’t wait to check out the Oil-Free Moisture Lotion, Spot Remover Acne Treatment Pads and Acne Treatment Gel for my minor breakouts! Check out the entire line below.

I have yet to try this, but I do love Origins products!

It’s such a good line, Lily! Definitely a “must-try!
Sounds like it’s a great product that works for your skin type (and the packaging and these pictures — too cute). I actually have really dry skin (not a blessing, just a curse, lol), but for some reason, I still look a lot younger than my age.

I feel your pain! My oily skin is keeping me young looking, but it’s definitely a pain to deal with sometimes. I’ll have to give these products a try.
