If you are looking for a luxurious hotel in a central location of vibrant Montreal, the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth has you covered. Recently renovated, this jewel of a hotel is a stone’s throw from the best this chic city has to offer. If you are planning on visiting La Belle Province and Montreal in particular, consider the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth as your stunning “home away from home”.
Why You Should Stay At The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth
I recently spent a long weekend in Montreal and stayed at this fabulous hotel. It’s a favourite hotel of mine because its stunning, comfortable and the service is beyond compare. Here are a few great reasons to make the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth your hotel of choice in this great city.
Location, Location, Location
This beautiful hotel is located in downtown Montreal with the legendary Sainte-Catherine Street just a couple of blocks away. You can shop ’til drop at stores such as Holt Renfrew, Aritzia, Club Monaco, etc. which are all within walking distance.
Go just a little bit further to Rue Sherbrooke and take in an exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts. I highly recommend the current L’Heure Mauve exhibit. Head across the street to the Musée D’Art Contemporain de Montréal for abstract and modern pieces that are truly spectacular.
The Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens is also within walking distance so you can catch a concert or hockey game while in town.
Old Montreal is one of my favourite areas which is conveniently nearby as well. Hop in an Uber to the Vieux Port, and you will feel like you were transported to Paris, with its cobble stone streets, historic buildings and fanstatic cafés. Treat yourself to a new outfit as well from one of the myriad of gorgeous independent boutiques in the area.
The Amenities!
The Suites & Fairmont Gold
The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth was recently renovated and this jewel box of a hotel looks absolutely fantastic. It definitely has a royal vibe with a new sexy and cool atmosphere.
All 950 rooms were renovated with a bright and bold look which is still warm and inviting.
I was lucky enough to experience a Large Signature Fairmont Gold Room that made my heart skip a few beats! Upon entering, I was floored at the vintage 1960’s decor (totally my jam).
From the stunning sitting area to the oversized bathroom with huge freestanding modern tub, rain shower with multiple jets, it made my luxury-loving heart swell.
Fairmont Gold
I also benefited from Fairmont Gold which is a luxury lover’s dream! With Fairmont Gold, you receive access to the private, gorgeous lounge that includes morning breakfast, evening canapés and desserts.
Relaxing in the beautifully decorated Fairmont Gold Lounge (which offers specular views of Montreal) with a glass of crisp rosé was perfect after a day of sightseeing! The service in the lounge is second to none as well.
The John Lennon & Yoko Ono Suite
Did you know that John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed at the hotel in 1969 and recorded the historic “Give Peace and Chance”? The pyjama-clad artists hosted hundreds of journalists, activists and fans for a peaceful protest at the hotel against the war in Vietnam.
The suite they stayed in was redesigned and is absolutely incredible. It features virtual reality, archival TV and radio footage, as well as
furnishings and artwork inspired by this landmark moment in time.
Moment Spa
This hotel also features the gorgeous Moment Spa where I indulged in a Valmont Signature Facial. I floated out of there with dewy, soft skin thanks to the luxe Valmont skincare used – a favourite skincare brand of mine. Side note: pick up Valmont’s LumiPeel. You will glow your way through summer with this hydrating facial moisturizer.
Gym & Indoor Pool, Hot Tub & Saunas
Across from the spa is a fully equipped gym and beautiful indoor pool complete with hot tub and saunas – a true oasis.
The Hotel’s Restaurants Are Top Notch
This British Girl highly recommends afternoon tea at the Fairmont’s Rosélys restaurant. The elegant savoury bites and desserts accompanied by their larger selection of teas is divine and a true royal experience. The atmosphere is elegant and lively as well.
Head Chef Edgar Trudeau-Ferrin outdid himself with the dinner menu as well with some of the best seafood dishes I have had north of the Caribbean. I loved every second of this gastronomic experience.
Don’t forget happy hour at Bar Nacarat, the hotel’s rooftop terrace. The cocktails are incredible! I HIGHLY recommend the gin-based Madame Violette cocktail and Bourbon & Coconut – totally delicious.
Visit Bar Nacarat from Wednesday to Sunday, where guests are treated to amazing beats by talented local DJs, indulge in some delicious bbq bites followed by a Dior makeup application by onsite Holt Renfrew makeup artists (available on Thursdays and Fridays only). I was treated to a smokey eye/nude lip combo by talented Dior makeup artist Maude Hedegus.
Other Fun Things To Do While In Montreal
Celeste by Cirque Éloize is a 90-minute cabaret show that you can experience at the Fairmont La Reine Elizabeth. We were treated to a dazzling show featuring acrobatics that will blow your mind.
Le Balcon – The Best of Soul, Motown & Jazz: A Tribute to the Great Legends
Located in an old, beautiful church on Sainte-Catherine’s street in the Quartiers des Spectacles, Le Balcon is an awesome live Motown show featuring some of your favourite hits from the 60s & 70s. Get down to the great beats while enjoying a fantastic dinner!
Get your selfie on at the very cool Le Saint-Motel. A multi-sensory experience, this selfie studio based in the heart of Montreal offers over 13 captivating themed rooms for you to take your unique self-portraits in. Trust me – you will love their creative vintage motel concept.
Looking for a great brunch spot while you are out and about? Treat yourself to some gourmet deliciousness at the Sofitel’s Le Renoir Restaurant. Located in the lobby of the beautiful Sofitel Hotel, Le Renoir offers lovely French cusinine with a stellar Sunday brunch.
