A Tourist In Her Own City

Well, the days are finally warming up and I am taking advantage. Once that sun starts to shine and mercury rises, I rise from the darkness of the basement (where the big screen and Netflix are) and head out into the sun.

Over the weekend, I grabbed my budding photographer sister Alice, and we hit the downtown core for a nice long walk.

Ottawa is a funny little city. We are so starved for warmth that it’s not uncommon to see joggers out in shorts and tank tops when the thermometer reads a balmy 5C.  That’s 41F for my American friends. This past Sunday, Ottawa was warmish and sunny, so patios were packed with sun worshippers sipping margaritas in the 10C temperature.  Hey – we’ll take whatever we can get.

I finally got the chance to bust out my gorgeous blush pink trench coat and matching little cross body purse – both great finds from Forever 21. I’ve completely jumped onto the blush pink bandwagon and my closet is now a nice mix of Pantone’s colours of year – rose quartz and serenity (a pretty pale blue). I felt I looked the part of “chic tourist in her own hometown” as we walked around Parliament, strolled along the Rideau Canal and popped in and out of boutiques along Sussex.

I can’t wait to get back into the sunshine again, and looks like Mother Nature is finally cooperating and offering up a beautiful weekend ahead.

What are some of your favourite tourist looks? Are you a “comfy seeing the sights” sort of person, or “chic fashionista at any cost” while exploring a city? Let me know in the comments!
