How To Look Like Trouble

Several weeks ago, I went for cocktails with my photographer friends Dave and Fay at Riviera. On the way back to my car, some lecherous guy hissed at me with an amorous look on his face: “You look like trouble.” As I ran away in fear and disgust, I started wondering what he meant.

She has a look that tells you you’re in the best kind of trouble; the kind you never want to get out of.” – J. Iron Word

I’m a self-professed scaredy cat. I do not like the dark, insects, kale (that’s the Devil’s lettuce, for reals), heights or my feet touching the bottom of lakes. I’m also a bit of a goody goody, so his comment really stuck with me. What exactly does trouble look like anyways?

When I think of “trouble”, I think of a pack of 15-year-olds smoking together in the mall parking lot. I also think of the 40% off sale at J.Crew…so, who knows?

The day that gross guy hissed at me, I was wearing this lovely black jumpsuit from Melanie Lyne with the frills, see-through sleeves and off-the-shoulder detail. Swinging from my shoulder was my Gucci purse that I’m clearly immensely proud of. My lips were a shade of hot pink and I pulled out the silver leopard print Jimmy Choo flats I scored in Vegas (where else – they’re bananas). This outfit is quintessentially me – “ a little bit classic, a little bit over the top” and all girly-girl.

To this day, I’m still sort of wondering about that trouble comment and have chosen to take it as a compliment, because hey – I looked awesome that day. In fact, now that I think about it, this little experience makes me smile. That weirdo on the street is kinda making my day!

What is your definition of “trouble”?? I asked my girlfriend. Without skipping a beat, she said “Zac Efron”. I’m still laughing…

Like the blog, love the outfit and interesting topic as well… I have many questions and comments, I’ve had varying situations like this as well.
When you know you look classy and sexy with a whole lotta style and the way you carry yourself, it’s a compliment (of course delivered in a rude and inappropriate way) but nonetheless take it as that. You’re trouble because you have confidence, class and style and the “guy” would fall in love you with fast and be in “trouble”
My response – “of course I’m trouble, aren’t we all?” OR “Thank you, you look dull” have a nice night.” with a smile and a wave .. lol

Oh, don’t let that guy get to you. Guys have a way of giving their opinion when it’s not asked, lol. I think you look like a dream. This is a classic outfit.

And I love your friend’s Zac Efron comment and your J. Crew sale comment. Both can be trouble in their own right (I’m more of a Chris Hemsworth kind of trouble though, lol).

      Thanks, Cheryl!

The jumpsuit is so alluring and feminine Dom! I love the soft ruffles but the black adds an edgy appeal that is sexy! I love the purse! Oh, I need one myself! Trouble is chocolate donuts and online shopping!

Haha I love your post title! You don’t look like trouble so much as you know how to stop trouble in it’s tracks with your boss-ness! Love a good jumpsuit and this one is slaying it on you!

Love the jumpsuit, D! I’m on the hunt for something black for Andrea’s wedding and never considered Melanie Lynn but maybe I will now. Funny story too, btw!

Well, you look fabulous! I know that whenever I put on red, I will literally stop people in their tracks. For this reason only, I refuse to wear any form of a red dress at work! lol But when it’s time to have fun, I have no problem pulling it out so I can look like “trouble”. Now that I am sporting blonde hair? Watch out world!

Haha, I love title & the story behind the post. You look absolutely stunning in that dress, and the shoe & bag combo is very pleasing.
Even if the guy looked gross, just know that you are way up-class for guys like them, so they have to drop a stupid comment 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!
