Well, we have another beautiful weekend ahead of us and I am grateful! I am here getting ready to drive downtown and take in sun, while walking around the Byward Market…one of my favourite things to do.
Ottawa offers up so many great activities for its residents and visitors to experience, to my own delight. From the tons of great restaurants to outdoor festivals of all sorts, there is no possible way to be bored over the summer.
As you all know, The National Gallery of Canada is one of my own favourite hang-out spots. I love visiting and taking in its beautiful collections and exhibits. One that I’ve had the pleasure of viewing is the famed Ordrupgaard Collection which is on display now until September 8th, 2018.
The Ordrupgaard Collection just so happens to be one of the most beautiful in the world. It features a huge collection of Impressionist masterpieces from the likes of Matisse, Pissarro, Gaudin, Manet, Monet and more. On loan from the Ordrupgaard Museum in Copenhagen, these fine works are some of the best from top artists of 19th-century French painting.
Earlier this week, I was treated to a tour of this collection. It left me breathless. Seriously. The last time I was this bowled over by such fine art was when I visited the Galleria Borghese in Rome which offers up some of the finest works of art by Caravaggio (my all-time favourite).
The Ordrupgaard Collection features some of the best still life art, landscapes and portraiture I’ve ever seen. I walked around the exhibit truly in awe, wishing that I had such talent (my fine art skills ends at stick man art).
I enjoyed this collection so much that after a nice lunch with friends at Tavern on the Hill today, we are going to skip across the street to the Gallery to take in the collection again. It is that good.
Enjoy a visit to the gallery to take in the Ordrupgaard Collection asap. It is a really nice complement to all of the fun things happening around the city this weekend, such as The Italian Festival, Westfest and the Volleyball Nations League Competition at TD Canada Place!
