I am currently on vacation and loving life. I needed the rest, man! For the past few months, I’ve been walking around like a bit of a zombie due to lack of sleep and sketchy eating habits. Don’t get me wrong – I eat pretty carefully most of the time, but lately, life has been so busy that I was grabbing whatever food that seemed “sort of healthy’, gobbling it down quickly and getting on with life.
During this week off, I’m taking the time to rest and take care of my body. I’ve cut down on the alcohol intake (my liver is thanking me), getting at least 8-10 hours of sleep nightly (completely glorious) and eating great, healthy foods – most of which are organic and locally-sourced. I guess you can say that I’m undertaking a bit of an “easy cleanse” and really enjoying it! I rounded up a few great tips for all of you to do your own easy cleanse and stick with it without hating your life!
Good Morning, Lemon Water!
I start each morning with a lukewarm glass of lemon water. Why lukewarm? Cold water can shock the system and slow digestion. Cut a lemon in half, squeeze it into your lukewarm water and drink about 15 minutes before eating breakfast.
Lemons are great for you as they are loaded with Vitamin C, potassium and great enzymes which stimulate your liver to flush out toxins. This helps you feel more energized and makes your skin look great.
Eat Organic
A diet rich in vegetables and fruit is a natural detox in itself. Organic foods are grown with little pesticides and no fertilizers, and you reap the benefits of their higher nutritional value. Organically raised animals are not given antibiotics, growth hormones or fed animal by-products, and overall you can feel better supporting organic farming which is better for the environment.
During your easy cleanse, do yourself a favour and skip foods that come in a bag or box.
Spice It Up
Add some tasty spices to your foods! Ginger, cayenne, turmeric, etc. are great natural cleansers and can curb hunger pangs and cravings.
Cut The Sugar
Decrease your sugar intake in a way that doesn’t make you crazy, including sugars like honey and artificial sweeteners. If your overdoing your sugar intake, your body creates more insulin, overworking your pancreas. Over time, too much sugar can leave you always feeling tired and can lead to some nasty chronic conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
Exercise That Bod
Get some regular exercise. Even short walks count! Do things you love that don’t feel like exercise. For me, I love to ride my bike or take a movement class. All exercise counts to get your blood flowing.
Regular exercise helps with digestion, strengthens your body and reduces stress and tension. Sweating also flushes out nasty toxins, and makes your skin look great!
Treat Yourself For a Cleanse Well Done!
Like all goals I reach, I like to treat myself in order to not go crazy! Sugarfina sent me the totally adorable 7-Day Gummy Bear Cleanse Pack and I knew I’d be chowing down daily to reward myself. Made with apple, lemon, ginger and greens, these cute little gummies are fat-free, non-GMO and contain 20% of your daily intake of Vitamins A and C. A far cry from the old days where I was eating two Snickers bars a day. Sigh!
Sugarfina is pretty much my go-to treat supplier of choice. Their Bella Rosa hard candies and Rosé All Day gummy bears are seriously addictive.
I hope you enjoyed my tips for undertaking an easy cleanse. Have you ever detoxed before? How did it go?
*A big thank you to Sugarfina for sending along the 7-Day Gummy Bear Cleanse Pack in exchange for my honest opinion.
Those green gummies are so adorable. A lot of fantastic tips here, and girl, what a body! Hope you’re enjoying your break. I just came back from mine. 🙂
Dom,
Your blog and the delightful idea of gummy bears for a cleanse is tempting!
It doesn’t help that I was able to gobble down a couple of those tasty bears 🐻 , thanks for sharing your view (and sparing a couple bears for my inquiring mind.)
Being on the go, and as a parent, it’s always great for some fresh ideas of how to do some easy cleanses that can fit well within an already jam-packed day.
