FAQs…and Answers

Do you do this full-time?

Yes! Several months ago, I decided to quit my full-time job and focus solely on my social media career. It was the best decision I ever made. I knew this was my passion when I would write blog posts, take pictures, answer Instagram comments, etc…and forget to eat, go to the washroom, and even sleep!! This work fills my heart and soul – truly.

When did you start blogging?

I started my blog in 2015 after some gentle prodding by my husband. He noted that I was doing fun things around the city of Ottawa where we reside, love fashion and beauty…so why not share my thoughts with the world?

I’m glad I took his advice. Six years later, 2 million views on YouTube, almost 50,000 followers on Instagram, a thriving and well-read website and a weirdly viral Tiktok, I couldn’t be happier.

Do you have kids?

No. I do have a little Bernedoodle that I am in love with though!

Reese the Bernedoodle Dog

How old are you?

43.

How did you grow your social media presence?

WITH HARD WORK!! I loved it so much that I took the time to learn it thoroughly, network, take courses, sharpen my photography & video skills, writing and technical skills.

There are no shortcuts with social media. Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t be one of those and buy your followers and engagement. Everyone will know and you will kill your credibility with brands and followers.

What is your greatest achievement since you started your “side hustle”?

There have been so many wins! I would say my biggest achievement though is hitting my long-time goal of quitting my government job and focusing on my social media work full-time. I feel free and really, really happy now!

Having so many of you contact me to say that I have inspired you in someway is really special. I am grateful!

Are you married?

Yes! I am married to the most wonderful and supportive man ever named Ryan. He’s my rock, my best friend and he is pretty damn handsome. We have been married for 17 great years.

Do you have breast implants?

NO. Please stop asking that!!

Any tips for transitioning from the corporate world to full-time content creator?

YES! Create a solid plan and execute it well. I wrote down my goals, created a plan incorporating a solid editorial calendar and defined my niche. I also focus on the audience I have, not “getting more followers”. That’s where so many content creators fail.

Most importantly, I created a financial plan with our wealth manager. That’s right. WEALTH MANAGER. Not only do I want to succeed at what I’m doing and enjoy the process, I want to create an even better life for myself and my husband. Our wealth manager created a savings plan for me and set out a series of steps to ensure that I have a regular income that keeps growing.

Why did you choose to focus on skincare?

I grew up surrounded by my gorgeous Mum, Granny, Great Aunts and Aunties that all looked fabulous and took skincare very seriously. They instilled that skincare love in me.

In my early twenties, I became certified esthetician and learned the ins and outs of skincare – ingredients, treatments, how to apply products, which ones work best for whatever you want to treat, etc. I fell in love with that work and working in a spa still remains one of my favourite jobs ever.

Also, I suffered from terrible acne in my teens and 20s. When I learned about skincare and how skincare ingredients work, my skin got better. The really fuelled my interest as well.

How do you deal with online hate?

I don’t. I absolutely do not indulge haters, outright copycats and complainers. I stay in my lane, mind my own business and THRIVE.

Remember, the block button is your bestie. Report nasty comments, block haters and move on.

What is your favourite designer brand?

I LOVE Chanel, and Hermès is so classic and high quality. Louis Vuitton is a favourite as well. Their monogram print is so classic and lovely against dark skin tones!

For high street, I stick to Aritzia, Massimo Dutti, and of course, Trendsavvy! So many great brands under one umbrella. Use code Domisthebomb for a sweet discount – shameless plug alert!!
