Well, it’s that time of year again where I share the best of the worst pictures from Style Domination over the course of 2018. From terrible poses, to bad outfits, to my signature ridiculous faces, I’m showing you guys what it takes to get that “perfect shot”.
I’m always inspired by my favourite popular bloggers like Tezza, MusesUniform, NeginMirsalehi and SongOfStyle. Sometimes though, that inspiration goes overboard with me completely botching new poses and fashion looks. Sigh…oh well. You don’t learn and get ahead if you don’t try, right? LOL!
Last year’s post highlighting my best outtakes (you can check out that post here) has proven to be consistently popular, so I thought I would make this an annual thing. So, sit back, enjoy The Best of The Worst and have a few good laughs at my expense…and remember, social media is highly curated and a little too perfect. It’s refreshing to post some realness.
The “You Better Get This Shot Right, OR ELSE!” Shot
Poor Alyssa! I dragged my dear friend to a forgotten, but pretty corner of Simons. We moved around the displays and grabbed stuffed animals from the pillow section…all under the careful watch of a curious salesperson.
The title of this shot is more of a joke – Alyssa is amazing and always gets the best shots quickly…therefore, I have no idea why I look so jerky in this shot. Lol…
The “I think I’ll Try To Look Sexy And Sultry” Failure Shot
This was a little campaign I shot for MAC Cosmetics. I wanted to look cool and sexy. Instead, I look insane. WOW.
The “I Think I’ll Rip Out A Tuft Of Hair” Shot
When you are shooting in a snowstorm and your hair gets wet, best not to run your hands throught your tangled tresses…especially when Tara is shooting who loves herself some bloopers.
The “Questioning Your Will To Live Because It’s So Cold In Ottawa” Collection
Goddamn, It’s Cold #1
Goddamn, It’s Cold #2
Goddamn, It’s Cold #3
The “What It Really Takes To Get That Shot” Shot
Too-Big dress sent to you in the wrong colour? Check.
Dried out feet? Check.
Forgot the moisturizer? Check.
The “Race Car Driving Is Scary” Shot
I thought it would be fun to check out Calabogie Motorsports Park and try out the race cars. It was…until you look in your rearview mirror and see a much more experienced driver bearing down on you at oh…200km/hr…and then tailgate you like he has a deathwish…and then you see your life flash before your eyes and start sobbing.
The “Boob Check” Series
I was blessed with boobs. Thank you, Lord. They get in the way though. Sometimes thanks to them, I look like a video ho in string bikinis. Crop tops are normally a no-no, and low v-necks are accidents waiting to happen. That’s why you can most often find me “checking the boobs” to ensure they are right where they should be and not stealing the show.
The “Windiest Spot In The City” Shot
That day was cold…and WINDY. I almost became airborne trying to cross Kent Street to get that shot. The belt broke off the coat and it was near impossible to get a picture of the coat falling naturally. Samantha – you are a trooper with your patience throughout about 500 takes!!
The “See? I Have A Giant Head” Shot
I was pretty sure I would have had to have that helmet surgically removed. OUCH.
The “I’m Not Feelin’ It” Series
The “Reese Likes To Ruin The Shot” Shots
Here I am trying to use my tripod and remote shutter to do a few portraits. Reese had other plans.
The “Allergies Are Ruining My Life” Shot
Ragweed season came with a vengeance this July. Maybe shooting this lovely Lincoln in the forest near my house wasn’t the best idea…and oh yeah. Reese was squirmy and wriggly especially when he saw our neighbour walking his goldendoodle in the distance. Reese wanted no part of this shoot. Sigh.
The “Pissing Off The Cranky Store Owner” Series
For the most part, shooting around the city is fun. Bystanders stop and watch, and oftentimes come up to us to ask about what we are up to.
The owner of a gallery though was not impressed. She came out, yelled at us and demanded that we move, but thankfully, a customer walked in and she started tending to him. She did evil-eye us the whole time though while my photographer cringed. Lol – good times!
The “Don’t Worry – I’ll Crop It Out” Collection
Shot #1
Here I am shooting with Alyssa again. It was a hot, sunny day in July or August, and the city was alive with people enjoying the weather. Just out of the frame of this shot was a person holding shopping bags just staring. Ok. Cool.
Five minutes go by…then ten…until we stared at him until he left. Again, guerilla photography.
Shot #2
Tara: “I dunno, Dom. I don’t like those ugly windows in the background.”
Me: “Don’t worry about it. It’s cold….let’s get the shot and I’ll ‘crop them out’!”.
The “Pretend To Laugh” Shot
Rarely works out well, leaving me looking like I need mental help.
Well, I will wrap up the outtakes here. I cannot that you guys enough for reading Style Domination this year. Your support and encouragement mean the world.
Remember, social media ain’t perfect, so don’t let it make you feel bad ever.
Take care and Happy New Year!
