5 Things That Made Me Happy This Month

The past four weeks have been insane. So much so, that it was time for me to take a small, little hiatus. Yes, yes – I apologize for being away this long, but I’m back.

I needed a little “reset”. Life was really hectic and my body was telling me to rest. The days of me working 9-5 then rushing home to walk Reese, make dinner, find time to work out and then blog were wearing me out. So, I took the past month to just “be”. FitBit sent me a beautiful Charge 3 and that right there was motivation enough to take some time for myself (but more on the FitBit Charge 3 later).

So, how did I rest up and get back in touch with Dom? Read on for five things that made me happy over the past four weeks.

A Girl’s Getaway

This past weekend, my fellow blogger girlfriends and I had an insanely fun getaway to The 6ix. This girl right here loved every second of it! A huge thank you to Via Rail for getting us all there in business-class style and to the Hotel X Toronto for the suite suitable for a queen!

We had gourmet dinners, cocktails by the gallon and chilled poolside at both the hotels rooftop pool (stunning!) and Lavelle. From enjoying gourmet gelato to giggling during hot yoga, it was exactly the type of fun getaway I needed to let loose and relax. Sleeping 10 hours a day throughout the weekend too sure does a body good.

Being Interviewed By Follow Me’s Sabine Daniel

I have been following the award-winning tv and radio personality Sabine Daniel ever since I started my blog four years ago. Sabine is the host of Follow Me – a captivating show on Bell Media TV1’s that delves into the lives of social media personalities.

I was FLATTERED when she reached out to me for an interview and jumped at the opportunity. A little nervours the morning of the taping, I was not quite sure what to expect, but Sabine’s warm and fun personality instantly put me at ease.

She asked me about my blog, how I got started, what motivates me and what’s in store for the future. We laughed our heads off and just had fun! I left feeling completely inspired by this woman of colour who is absolutely killing it.

When my interview airs, I’ll be sure to share it with all of you. Excited!

A New Designer Goody

This girl right here hadn’t treated herself to a new bag in a long time. I had my eye on a few great designer bags but had to be real: spending thousands on something that only holds your lipstick, phone, wallet and keys wasn’t quite in the cards for me for the past few months.

There were real life things to pay for like income tax (UGH), a new car, a new interlock walkway (boring!), putting money away for upcoming trips and paying for an online course that I had wanted to take for a few months now.

Dominique Baker and her collection of designer handbags

I scour the Fashionphile website (an online, very reputable designer consignment site) like it’s my full-time job looking for arm candy that piques my fancy. A beautiful YSL Loulou Bowling Bag was up for grabs at a great price. It was the perfect little black bag – not too big, not too small with cool, edgy details and buttery soft leather that made me swoon.

Stay tuned for an upcoming post on how to find great designer bags at the fraction of the cost thanks to Fashionphile. In the meantime, you can check out my latest YouTube video below on my designer handbag collection and a peak at this pretty, little YSL.

Attending The Canadian Art & Fashion Awards (CAFAs)

My girl Katrina contacted me several weeks ago to let me know that she had been invited to the CAFAs and asked if I’d like to be her +1. I fell off my chair! Attending the CAFAs is a BIG DEAL and has been a goal of mine forever now.

We were dressed by haute couture designer, Zarucci and got professionally dolled up for the event.

I knew the CAFAs would be attended by Canadian fashion royalty, but nothing prepared me for this spectacle. Firstly, the fashion was OFF THE HOOK. All attendees looked beyond stunning. From Dior to Narces, the couture gowns I saw made me drool.

On top of getting high on fashion, I got to meet some bloggers I had been following closely for years now and reconnected with old friends who were also in attendance.

To say that Katrina and I “had a blast” is the understatement of the century.

And Finally, Attending Tara’s Stunning Baby Shower

Tara, one of my favourite people in the world, is almonst nine months pregnant! I’ll never forget the day she told me. I think I just stared at her in complete shock just blinking my eyes repeatedly. LOL!

We were the “childless bloggers” – travelling whenever we wanted, doing whatever we wanted and having the freedom to buy dumb stuff like overpriced shoes, bags, makeup – you name it. Having kids was sooo not on our radar. I should have known something was up when she started talking about babies out of the blue during a shoot about a year ago.

Tara just so happens to be an incredible stylist and it never surprises me that she’s always the best dressed in the room. When I showed up at her baby shower, I knew it would be beautiful, but I didn’t think it would be that incredible!!

There were incredible custom designed cakes, beautiful mocktails and impeccable floral arrangements. Even the virtual palace of a home the shower was being held in was perfect. I was in awe for the whole day.

Best of all, beautiful Tara looked so radiant and happy that she brought tears to our eyes! To see this lovely girl shriek in delight as she unwrapped the cute gifts for Baby Vienna filled my heart.

Feeling Refreshed

After a month of rest, I feel like a new person. I’ve learned some ways to slow down and not feel guilty about not “getting everything done right away”. This reset couldn’t have come at a better time also as I will be started a new chapter in my career soon.

Taking the time to decompress was really important and the fact that I’m now sleeping better and not feeling like death when I wake up feels – obviously – so great.

I’ll be back to my regular blogging schedule of three posts a week. Those of you who took the time to check in on me, THANK YOU! I’m ok…just needed a little break.

Love you guys! Excited to share all of the great beauty, fashion and other fun things I’ve been to lately!

DORCAS! So sorry! Your comment slipped by me! GIRL – I love wine, but it doesn’t love me. More than two glasses and I’ll be hurting for days! And yes – Nora, the designer of Zarucci is a master. She was so kind to lend us such gorgeous pieces! And the black and gold dress is alll mine. I LOVE IT. My first piece of couture! Yeah – Birkins…that’s Kardashian level. Hahaha! Thanks for reading, Sweets! xoxoxox

Dom, I feel you on the wine. I always thought it was Bougie-like to settle in the tub with a good glass of wine. Alas!!!! My body reacts to it like an anesthesia. So, I just respect myself and chill with my lemongrass tea.
Never mind the Kardashians, you deserve a BERKINS TOO😚😚
