Happy Monday, All!
I had an absolutely fantastic weekend! Our good friend Meredith was visiting from LA and we were fortunate enough to all get together on Friday night for dinner.
Being an LA native, Meredith has access to some of the best authentic Mexican food in her revered city. To make her feel at home, we wanted to take her to local favourite El Camino for tacos and margaritas (El Camino has perfected the margarita, in my opinion). Unfortunately, it true El Camino fashion, the wait for a table was over 90 minutes long, so we decided to head up the street to Town for dinner.
For dessert, we decided to go to one of my favourite places in the city, Pure Gelato. After our first trip to Italy two years ago, I have become absolutely and hopelessly addicted to gelato. I’ll never forget my night in Rome two years ago, when Ryan and I went out to dinner to celebrate the fact that he was finished all of his meetings. We ate until we couldn’t move. As we rolled back to the hotel, we stopped for some limoncello gelato at a cute gelateria next to the Trevi Fountain. As we greedily ate our gelato, we gazed at the Trevi Fountain and just couldn’t believe how lucky we were to be experiencing all of this beauty. It’s one of my favourite travel memories to date.
Pure Gelato is an adorable little ice cream bar located at 350 Elgin Street here in Ottawa. When you walk in, you are greeted by a clean, bright, fun, lively open space decorated in happy shades of orange, yellow and pistachio. The ice cream servers are a happy bunch, always willing to let you try samples of every flavour they offer, and happily suggest flavours that you may be interested in.
Pure Gelato carries all of your favourite flavours such as limoncello, Skor, Oreo, pistachio, coconut, Bacio (chocolate hazelnut) blackberry, strawberry, dulche de leche, tiramisu and fun and interesting flavours such as green tea, marsala and more. Pure Gelato also offers some amazing crepes – I highly recommend you treat yourself. For those of you with lactose concerns, Pure Gelato has many delicious lactose-free options.
I feel Pure Gelato is best enjoyed late at night, after some fun on the town. At night, this fun little spot will be packed to the gills with like-minded people craving gelato after a night of drinking *cough our group cough*
If you are in the area, why not pop in, cool off from the summer heat with one of their refreshing treats? I have to admit…I pop in at any given time of year! Mmmmm….MMMM!!
What are some of your favourite summertime desserts? Ever had Pure Gelato? Let me know in the comments!

I would love to visit New Mexico one day! It looks beautiful!
Gelato makes me smile, too … and *nothing* is quite as fabulous as gelato in Italy. 🙂
Now I’m jealous … no place to find it around here. I guess I’ll just have to book a plane ticket. 😉
