Winter Wonderland Style

Ahhh January…a month full of snow and cold, marking winter’s halfway point. I don’t care for the cold, and if it weren’t for Ottawa being a lovely city, I probably would have made the move to much warmer climes by now.

The winters where I live are cold, harsh and LONG, making it very conducive to hibernating in your warm house snuggled up with a mug of hot chocolate.  It’s also conducive to cabin fever. Around this time of year, I am desperate for winter to be over, to take walks outside under the spring sun, catch glimpses of daffodils and tulips poking their heads through the cold ground and simply anticipating the wonderful summer months.

The key to surviving the miserable Canadian winter is to simply suck it up and enjoy it. Now, I don’t ski and I most definitely do NOT snowboard (pretty sure the word “snowboard” is synonymous with “compound fracture”), but I do enjoy skating down our Rideau Canal – the proud recipient of the Guiness Book of World Records honour of being the longest skating rink in the world until Winnipeg ripped that honour away from us.

I had a moment this weekend where I needed to get out of the house. Instead of spending another weekend hunkered down under a blanket watching Netflix, I decided to get out of the house and enjoy a day walking around downtown with my friend Amira.

We found a beautiful, old church with lovely red doors and thought it would be fun to take some “winter style” shots. The outfit I’m wearing is pretty much the type of outfit I wear on the weekends to look as put together as possible while not succumbing to frostbite. Enjoy!

I used to not like winter at all. Now i try to embrace it as its a fact of life here in England. Even thought it is harsh on my skin, in my mind i try to stay indifferent. I can only imagine winter is a lot more brutal in Canada. I don’t any Canadians on that front. lol

Well, you know one now, and the Canadian winter is HARSH. I mean, it tests your will to live. Haha! Ottawa is one of the coldest cities in the world in the winter, which is weird, because our summers are blazing hot. The nice thing about fall and winter though are the great clothes! While our winters are nuts, it’s sooo beautiful….

What a cute outfit! I live in Wisconsin, so I can relate to the cold. My winter wardrobe consists mostly of bulky sweaters and coats. I love your dress! I have too many wobbly bits to pull that off! LOL!

    • January 21, 2016 / 11:22 am

Hahaha! Thanks for the laugh and the kind words. Seems like our wardrobe is pretty much the same! It is brutally cold up here now and I’m wearing two sweaters! LOL!

I’m all about hibernating! But this year, since its not so bad in Toronto I’m finding myself out and about more than I’ve ever been in the winter. You look amazing!!!

    • January 23, 2016 / 11:54 pm

Thank you, babe! Toronto is awesome because it’s a little warmer and there is so much more to do! I also love that Christmas market you guys have in the Distillery District. I wish Ottawa had something like that. I wish Ottawa was Toronto! Lol! xoxox
