I don’t generally watch awards shows. I find them too long, too boring and always cringeworthy. From the embarrassing speeches to the embarrassing behaviour…it’s just too much. From what I’ve read this morning, the VMAs confirmed my thoughts on awards shows. Justin Bieber’s strange emotional performance, the “ladylike” behavior of Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus’ ridiculous outfit and Kanye declaring his bid for the presidency in 2020? Let’s just say that I’m glad I spent my evening watching four straight episodes of Orange is the New Black.
While I can’t stand awards shows, I do love seeing what the stars wore and I was somewhat thrilled to see a lot of outlandish looks, as opposed to over-polished cookie-cutterness (new word alert). Here are some looks from last night’s 3-hour long demonstration of everything that’s wrong with North American society. Enjoy!

I love Emily’s look too! I wouldn’t wear it, but she looks great (she’d look great in a garbage bag). Serayah is beautiful, but that dress is horrible! Haha! I’m really over these skimpy, “Show everything” dresses.

I just don’t get Kim’s outfit. The pockets on those hips is beyond unflattering. She’s pretty and could’ve worn something so much more flattering. Then Demi levato … It’s safe and pretty but I’m not sure about the dress and how flattering it is on her… I don’t think it brings out the best out of her figure… Miley Cyrus and that bald girl… Like … I don’t know. It looks so loud and pathetic .. There are different ways to make a statement

Haha – Amer Rose (the bald girl) is gorgeous, but always wears outlandish outfits. I’m assuming she wore it because she has been called all of those names in the past. I think Demi looks great – I think she also has a hard figure to dress properly. She normally wears a lot of tacky, loud outfits, so I thought that pale pink look was refreshing. And poor Kim! She looks uncomfortable. I couldn’t think of a more unflattering dress for her. GOD.
Oh I see … Well… Selena Gomez and Gigi looked beautiful though. So did the one with the thigh boots . Gorgeous

Ahahaha! I’m saving your comment, Lindsey. Your words reflect exactly how I feel. I’m all for individual expression, but there is a fine line between that and showy, attention-seeking.
Hahaha. Ditto. I don’t need to blog about this now because you completely verbatim read my mind and wrote it down. I saw three minutes of the show, starting right before Kayne’s 20min speech. Even my man was like “WHAT is Kim wearing?!” He even did an “OMG. Did you see that?” and rewound the show and paused the tape. Travesty.

Yes! Love Gigi’s look! I think, for Vanessa Hudgens, this dress is great on her. A nice change from her typical “dirty hippie” look. Lol! Yes – poor Kim. She needs some flattering loose dresses.

There are no words to describe these looks so I’ll plea the 5th, although there are a few decent ones. As for Miley, all I can say is Wow and not in a good way.

Haha Asa!! I grew up watching Mr. Blackwell, this biting fashion commentator who was popular in the 80s and 90s. He was so mean, yet funny and very gentlemanly at the same time. Look him up. He was hilarious. I think of him every time I write these little pieces. Glad you enjoyed this! xoxo

This is the first time I get to see some of the outfits and some are just …. horrible. I used to be such a Miley Fan during my Teenage years and now I feel like she’s going too crazy. Just like you wrote: Crazy outfits can be so much fun but not when they’re cheap looking. And why did Kim wear that?? She has a great fashion sense but that dress is just disadvantageous.
