The Flatform Sandal: The Most Polarizing Shoe of All Time?
Summer is nearing and I want new sandals. I’m noticing that the flatform sandal trend refuses to die, and it looks like it’s grown on me.
With my husband on an overseas work assignment, a sister in Toronto and another sister who refuses to answer my texts (that’s you, Alice), I turned to my good pal Vanessa for an honest take on the Teva flatforms pictured below. She hated them. In fact, I could sense her utter disgust through my computer!
Here are some examples of some other popular flatform styles. Tell me what you think in the comments! I could use some additional guidance before I pull the trigger on buying “the ugliest shoes of all time”. So harsh! Lol!
Do you like flatforms? Yay or nay? Let me know if the comments!
xo,
Dominique

It is funny I was looking for new sandals too and at first I was like ewww flat forms and then while I kept browsing I saw so many that I thought to myself “well they don’t look that bad, do they?” They are really ugly lololol but you keep seeing them that I might, MIGHT being the key word buy a cheap pair and see if I like them or not lololol xoxo Janet
Well you know where I stand on this lol.
My last 2 style posts are feature these WONDERFUL flatforms, freaking love them!
My suggestion, start with 2 inches height. Nothing too high because some of them aren’t meant to have to little ankle support for such a wide base and if you trip, you will sprain the shit out your ankle.
Guaranteed.
Don’t ask me how I know..
😀
Oh no! I hope you didn’t hurt yourself too badly!! This is sage advice. I actually desperately want the flatforms in my header pic (the black and green striped ones)!! xo
I’m not a fan personally BUT I have this sweet nostalgia for them that kind of makes me love them because I associate them with the late 90s/early 00s when fashion seemed so innocent! I’m picturing Julia Styles in 10 Things I Hate About You and I just can’t entirely dislike something that brings back so many memories! 😀
Thank you for this post, I didn’t even know those were “a thing” again. I used to have a pair in the 90’s and they were my favorites! I’ve never liked the look, but I love the added height, and comfort. At this point in my life and fashion, I would have to agree with the mass majority; some are questionably cute, wedges are more flattering, and the trainers are dope! Thanks for the style inspiration, I will be sure to update you when I get a pair!
I did. Hope you did too! I already have 7 screws and a plate in one leg from my famous bicycle (2011) ride trying to get fit. I won’t even go close to anything that may possibly make me fall. LOL !
They’re definitely interesting but they’re a nay for me. I don’t think they will stand the test of time and in a couple of years you’ll have a laugh and say “what was I thinking” or you’ll have to explain to your kids that “this was fashion back then”.
However, if you love them now, just go and get them, love and wear them and then move on (or back) to classic wedges, pumps and stilettos that will always look good. 🙂
I just tried on a pair…I was not sure how they would work for me so I left them at the store….They were pretty cute though…Maybe I’ll revisit them…Thanks for sharing
(smile) Without dating myself, I’m just going to say that “everything old is new again” – Some of them are quite comfy but not for dancing . Great photos and layout:)
Thank you so much! Yes – I’m dating myself too – I’m saying “no” to neon, acid wash and jelly shoes. They were too ugly the first time around! Hahaha! *No offense to those who love it!
interesting!!..

Interesting “good”? Interesting “bad”? LOL! ;o)
i came across this, for very 1st time,so i have to only imagine that fashion, but looks good!!
Author
Ahhh! Thanks! People either love them or hate them!
Those are hideous. They look like those chunky shoes that were popular in the 90s. I hated those back then too.
Author
Ahahaha! OMG! These shoes are polarizing! I agree! Remember those cheap platform flip flops? Those were so ugly.
Donnnnn’t doooo it!! Two words: clod. hoppers. Jimmy Choo wedges all the way!! Teehee 😉
Author
Ahahahaha! Jen! Ok – I won’t! The fashion goddesses have spoken!
Uhhhhhh…..no…..f-ugly….

Haha! I’m with you, Janet! I have yet to find a pair I love. For the most part, they just look to heavy and clunky.
I love flatforms, but not all 🙂
Author
Me too!
I like certain versions of them. I say go for it! *as I look up some styles to purchase myself* lol!

And actually I like those platform trainers! I think it’s the sandels I’m not sold on…
Author
Me too – love those trainers! I’m 50/50 on this trend. I like the flatforms that look more wedge-like (higher heel)…more flattering.
Author
OMG! That movie! LOVE!
EXACTLY! It just gives me such nice flashbacks to her massive platform flipflops! X
definetly love this trend on sneakers but on sandals unless is a wedge I think it looks terrible
Author
Hahaha! That seems to be the general consensus!!
Love platforms but I’ll only go 2″!
Author
That’s a good height! No sprained ankles.
I gotta go for “nay” on this. I think they’re too chunky and definitely un-sexy! 🙁 They look comfy but I’d still prefer a pair of stilettos.
Author
Ah yes. The sexy stiletto. My favourite!
Yay on this one! I don’t know what it is about them, but I love the look. Then again, I love every 90s retro look, but that’s just me. 🙂
Author
Haha! I like some of these looks too! Keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect pair! xoxox
I have the Steve Madden flatforms called “Surfside” and I LOVE them! They’re super comfy too! 🙂
Author
Oooh! I’ll check them out!!! xo

Thank you so much for reading! Yep – they are a total “thing” right now! I look forward to seeing what you get! ;o)
Hmm, I don’t love the look but they look comfy. Depending on the style, I’d say they are a do.
They also make me think of the 90’s and the Spice Girls. ?

Nice, aren’t they! Thanks for stopping by, April!
I would never wear them! Maybe, if I were younger?
But I’m 62, and I’m afraid I’d call and not be able to get up. Ha ha!

I think I like them! But I also liked similar styles back in the day!!! Remember platform sneakers??? ?
Nay!!!!!

Yes – you are right! I think I will get a cheap pair and call it a day. My husband says that they look like bricks strapped to your feet – lol!
Your husband is not too far off, I think!
Author
LOL!
This takes me back to the ’90s. LOL. I had a few back then, not sure if I’d rock them now….
Author
Haha – I think those of us who wore them the first time are a bit traumatized! LOL! xo
Personally, this is one trend that I will be gladly missing. I can’t do it. Nope, no thank you. lol!
Author
Haha! Fair enough! ;o)
I just tried on a pair…I was not sure how they would work for me so I left them at the store….They were pretty cute though…Maybe I’ll revisit them…Thanks for sharing

You’re welcome! I’m still on the hunt for a cute, feminine pair. Most I see are too brick-like. LOL! xo
Lol…exactly…I saw a pair in the Jelly Material…..perfect for Teens not me..

Haha! Sometimes you have to laugh at these trends….
