My Birthday...my favourite time of year! It’s the one time of year that I truly take the time to relax and treat myself. Oh God. I just lied to my readers. If you know me or read this blog regularly, you’ll know that most of my salary goes to treating myself (and buying my husband Reese Peanut Butter Cups). Sigh, but I digress.
December 6th was my birthday and I’m very aware that this post is long overdue, but I really wanted to get it up because it was a special one. No – it wasn’t a milestone birthday, but I spent it with my most of my favourite people, enjoying a meal that was to die for at North & Navy, one of my favourite restaurants.
The night was full of laughs, cocktails and gorging ourselves. It was gllorrrious (*said in Will Ferrell* voice). In between oysters and prosecco and mouthfuls of Nutella & banana birthday tart we shared laughs, talked about the future, talked about the past and just let loose and had fun. It truly was a great night. It was also a celebration of a great 2016 with was full of mid blowing opportunities that humbled me and gave me a new sense of self-confidence. I managed to prove to myself that I have a voice – once that people want to hear. Through this blog, I’ve also proved to myself that I’m an expert of sorts and for once in my life, I feel truly good at something. I’m not a sap, I promise…but I struggled for a long time to find myself and a purpose, and this blog has offered a great outlet for me to shine.
The Sagitarrian in me really showed through on my birthday too. I made plans to travel to Spain and England with my husband this coming summer. “Casual Dom” was in full force – taking it easy during the day and pampering myself in anticipation of my big night, and I was also brutally honest about looking forward to drinking an entire bottle of champagne by myself at dinner (didn’t happen – I’m such booze wimp these days).
I felt beautiful in my sparkling feathered birthday dress, and my talented photographer friend Nadine captured this dress beautifully. I was lucky to find this special collection BCBG number at Marshall’s Canada – a steal at $85, compared to $795. I couldn’t believe it when I found it sandwiched between a buttery soft Rag & Bone leather jacket (omigod) and a long, snuggly Zadig & Voltaire cardigan (double omigod). I snatched the dress and cried tears of joy when it fit perfectly. I felt like I had won the dress lottery.
So, as I sit here typing, I raise my cup of Earl Grey tea and toast to another great year. Thank you so much for making 2016 great. Means the world!
A really, really big thank you and major hugs to Marshall’s Canada for providing this lovely birthday dress!
