That particular morning wasn’t the greatest. My Dad was recovering from some pretty heavy duty surgery and I was stressed. I wanted him to be ok. I wanted him out of the hospital and back to his normal self. He was recovering well, but still. It’s hard to see a parent that way, especially my Dad who is known for being a “man’s man”, a tough yet easy going joker.
Long story short, my father has needed a kidney transplant for a while now. About two weeks ago, a donor kidney became available and we all rushed to the hospital. We were overjoyed, yet nervous. Here we all were, wishing and praying that the tests on both my father and the donor kidney would confirm that the surgery would be a go. After two days of sitting around and waiting, his nephrology team confirmed that the surgery would be proceeding.
The surgery went smoothly, but we were all still stressed and worried about whether the donor kidney would “take”. I was a walking ball of nerves and I felt mania setting in. Between crying jags and feeling overwhelming happiness, I was drained, exhausted and running on empty.
Ryan decided that “enough was enough”. He was going to take me out and make sure I would have a great time. He took it upon himself to ease the stress and take my mind off these worries, be it for only an afternoon. I’m really lucky.

I cleaned myself up – combing my hair and putting on makeup for pretty much the first time in a week. I received some gorgeous sterling silver jewelry in the mail a few weeks before from Teonella, a brand that I have been obsessed with since I started this blog. These fine pieces were just the pick me up I needed to forget about my worries and feel a little normal again. I put on a favourite outfit, sprayed on some perfume and we headed to Hintonburg.
As we neared my favourite gelato place, major smiles ensued. We grabbed our $9 cones (OUCH – damn yo!), and walked around the Parkdale Market. It was sunny and hot and perfect out.
We were about to turn around when we saw a girl walking towards us with her puppy. I pretty much lose my mind each time I see a dog and this time was no different. Little Poe was a two-month old Maltese and he was adorable as adorable could be. I asked permission to pet him, but his owner insisted I have a cuddle. It was EXACTLY what I needed. I scooped Poe up into my arms and a lovefest ensued. OH GOD. I need a dog so bad!!
So, long story short, gelato, some sparkling jewelry and a little cuddle from the cutest puppy I’ve ever seen really turned the day around. The jewelry, by the way, I’ve been wearing on repeat. That special day was the first time I wore the Teonella Horn Pendant Necklace and Rotondo Ring. Now whenever I wear them, I’m reminded of that sunny Sunday where Ryan took me out for one of the most memorable days of the summer.
I’m happy to report that my father is out of the hospital and recovering comfortably at home. He looks like a million bucks and is returning to his usual healthy self. We cannot thank the wonderful team at The Ottawa Hospital for the fantastic care they provided him with.
I really wish you all a fantastic day. I’m here smiling, remembering little Poe, the Snuggling All-Star and considering adopting my own little snuggler!
*A huge thank you to Teonella for providing the beautiful jewelry in exchange for my honest opinion.
