Shining Bright Like A Diamond – Al-Masani Royal Jewelry

I love jewelry. Full stop. I love it so much that on a trip to Washington, DC, I ditched my poor husband promptly to rush off to the Smithsonian’s Harry Winston Gallery. Upon entering the gallery, I came face to face with the Hope Diamond. I walked towards this glittering and enormously perfect blue diamond, while shoving other tourists aside and stepping over small children so that I could get a better look. It was then when I was seized by security guards for slobbering all over the fantastical jewel’s display case and summarily thrown out into the street. Worth it!!

If it weren’t for my limited income, I think I would drape myself in all that glitters. I have an issue of Vogue, well-loved and terribly dog-eared, that outlined Victoire de Castellane’s rise to fame as Dior Joiallerie’s head designer. I had never quite seen jewelry like that before – semi-precious and precious stones highlighted in whimsical floral and natural motifs, or adornments completely inspired by pop culture.  At the tender age of seventeen, I had become hooked on jewelry Elizabeth Taylor-style.

So, I sit here a “few years later” and a billion shy of being a billionaire, but I still love jewelry. What’s a girl on a budget to do? How about turn to the next best thing? Costume jewelry so fabulous you’d be hard-pressed to know the difference between it and the real thing.

Last Sunday, I went to the Al-Masani Royal Jewelry presentation and I was in seventh heaven. Model after beautiful model sauntered by showcasing Al-Masani’s glittering inaugural line. I have been invited to a ton of galas since I have started blogging and always wanted to get my bling on in addition to slipping into a head-turning gown. Looks like my dreams have come true.
