When I got my new job – which I’m quite enjoying (who knew??), I looked at my work wardrobe and thought it was time to class it up a bit. I had gotten used to the very laid back, uber casual vibe of my last office and thought it was time to retire that ho-hum look and elevate it a bit…dress for the job I want, if you will. Now was the perfect time to pull out the two Renard Watches I had acquired.
On top of purchasing pretty much the entire fall line at Massimo Dutti, I found myself reaching for my gold Renard Watch on the daily. With its gilt good looks and tiny lady-like proportions, it complemented the silk tops, patterned cropped trousers, tweed blazers and tobacco loafers I bought really quite well. I was incredibly proud to go from “employed at a tech firm where no one sees you ever, so it’s ok that there are pizza stains all over my shirt” to “I’ll be briefing the Minister today, so I better look like I know what I’m doing at the very least“.
A little about Renard Watches.…
They know watch design. A quick look at their website reveals a host of classic timepieces that will look good now and fifty years from now. They don’t care about trends, they care about great design and quality, and that’s obvious. My little black lizard strap watch with pale silver face is quintessentially classic. It reminds me of the vintage watch that my friend Jenny acquired from her mother – dainty, feminine and perfect. Of all of my watches, I reach for that little one the most.
Renard named itself after the fox – self-willed, confident, and one-step ahead of everyone. While I love my big, menswear-inspired watches, I’m really feeling all of the dainty, lady-like styles that Renard Watches offers.
I remember reading somewhere that many were eschewing timepieces as smartphones were making them obsolete. What garbage! Personally, I’d trade my bestie, my beloved iPhone any day for a gorgeous watch…but I’m a jewelry fanatic…so… Seriously though, a great timepiece tops off any outfit, that’s why great-looking, high-quality watches are still going strong.
A little secret that I probably shouldn’t share…when I worked in luxury retail a million years ago, we were taught to never ever judge a customer by what they were wearing, especially not to judge if they were donning a designer handbag or the latest designer clothing as anyone could get their hands on an LV bag or Citizens of Humanity jeans. We were told though that people who had money to spend could be identified by their watches. I hate to admit it…but that was so true. Case in point: when a shaggy haired, rough but good-looking guy with a hint of a black eye sat next to me on the plane to Vegas, I secretly prayed that he wasn’t going to kill me on the flight. As he pulled out his tray table, I couldn’t help but notice his beautiful, sparkling Baume & Mercier watch. Turned out he was a player for the New York Islanders…and sweet as pie. #NeverJudgeABookByItsCover
