Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibit – Victoria and Albert Museum

I AM SO EXCITED.

I just booked my upcoming trip to London and my lovely friend Jen snagged us two tickets to the hugely popular Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum!!  I am a huge fan of McQueen (check out my blog’s background image) and have always been awestruck by his dramatic creations.  When the Savage Beauty book was released, I snapped it up immediately.  Each time I look through its images, I never cease to be amazed at the late McQueen’s talent.  I can’t believe I’m going to see these artful pieces firsthand!  Thank you so much, Jen!!

After McQueen’s tragic death almost five years ago, his friends and collaborators chose to honour his life’s work by creating an exhibit defining his art’s high drama and dark intensity.  This exhibit has been praised for its wide breadth of carefully curated pieces and sophistication, and features work from his first collection to his final runway presentation.

Originating in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this showing has been incredibly popular with an estimated 660,000 visitors walking through the original exhibit’s doors. Due to this unprecedented interest, the museum extended the exhibition by two days and remained open until midnight to satisfy the throngs of curious admirers. Savage Beauty stands as one of the museums most popular exhibits of all time. No doubt the Victoria and Albert Museum will experience the same success.

Have any of my British or NYC followers had the chance to visit this exhibit?  How was it?  I heard that the Victoria and Albert Museum is experiencing record queues/lineups!

Thanks Lourdes! In the meantime, you should pick up with book “Savage Beauty”. It is gorgeous – the pictures are stunning! Can’t wait to post about the exhibit! Just learned the public cannot take pics within though. Sigh.
