Every year at this time – the dead of winter – my skin goes haywire. Dry, scaly skin on my legs, and my face goes into hyper oil production. Sigh. While I’m blessed to have pretty good skin, I do get the occasional breakout . Btw, when the hell does the acne stop???? How old do you have to be? LOL!
Anyways, I have gotten the dry, scaly skin under control by turning up the furnace’s humidifier, showering in warm water as opposed to hot and adding Alpha Keri bath oil to warm baths (that stuff is the bomb.com). I also pat my skin dry after bathing to retain more moisture and to lessen irritation from rubbing. My face though…that’s another story. I drink a ton of water each day, I don’t eat added sugars except for a tsp of Teavana’s German Rock Sugar in my coffee each morning, and I’m really careful about the products I use on my face. A couple of weeks ago, I started breaking out like crazy. I think it is due to a new mineral powder foundation that I started wearing that shall remain unnamed *smashes compact in Hulk rage*. I immediately stopped using that makeup and went on damage control. I have used several anti-acne products that have worked well for me, most notably Vichy’s Normaderm line. The cleanser used in conjunction with the moisturizer is really effective. I wanted to try something a little different this time especially at this time of year, mainly because I noticed that these products tend to dry out my skin in the winter. So, I’ve been on the hunt for more gentle products and I’ve been hearing good things about Shiseido’s Pureness line. The line is targeted at oily and blemish-prone skin types. A beautiful Japanese co-worker with the most perfect porcelain skin recommended Shiseido, and swore up and down that it’s excellent. My sister-in-law also swears by the line and her skin is gorgeous. Two great testimonials right there. It has been four days since I have started using the Shiseido products and my skin feels pretty good! The Deep Cleansing Foam is AMAZING. A little goes a long way, it creates a great creamy, soapy lather, has little granules for exfoliation (but not enough to do a thorough job) and it gives a cool, tingly sensation. It also does not leave that tight feeling after washing. The Balancing Softener removes all makeup and seems to make my skin pretty soft. It also primes skin for makeup application – bonus! The Moisturizing Gel Cream is super light and has a soft, pleasing fragrance that dissipates quickly so you don’t have to smell it all day. It’s very moisturizing for a gel cream and leaves my skin looking dewy, which I love. So far, I’m pretty impressed!
This line gets my stamp of approval. Any of my dear readers recommend any skincare products suited for oily/combination skin? Leave your recommendations in the comments section. I would love to hear from you all! xo, Dominique *Header image courtesy of www.baccarose.com
