OMG: You Need To See Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Light, Reinvented Makeup Collection

When I tore into Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Light, Reinvented Collection, I gasped. I stared at a box full of candy-coloured cosmetics sooo pretty, spring-like and soooo “Dom”, I cheered. My sister ran over to see what I was hooting and hollering about, and also started fan-girling over the box full of lavender, pale blue and candy pink makeup.

Mary Kay Light Reinvented Nail Lacquers

You see, I’m a mega girly girl and the proud owner of many, many pastel-coloured nail polishes. You open up my makeup kit and it’s loaded with blushes in every shade of pink you can imagine. And in my book, there is nothing better than an awesome pink lip.

Well, Mary Kay made my heart swell that morning with a bounty so quintessentially “springtime”, it made surviving these last few weeks of winter easier. I got to reviewing the new arrivals and here are my thoughts on Mary Kay’s latest offerings.

Limited-Edition Mary Kay Glossy Lip Oil

I am a huge fan of lip oils. Unlike most lip glosses, lip oils offer a moisturizing quality that is second to only pure shea butter in my book. Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Glossy Lip Oils ($19 CAD) contain avocado, grapeseed and jojoba oils.  What separates the Glossy Lip Oils from the rest are that they are a little heavier, therefore lasting longer than those I’ve tried. While heavier, they are not goopy or sticky in the least.

The Glossy Lip Oils also have more pigment than most (Magenta Ray being the most pigmented – and my fave). The colours goes on evenly and smoothly thanks to their soft, fuzzy applicator. All three are sasy to apply without a mirror.

On my skin tone, Sheer Pink is very sheer and looks like a clear lip gloss with a hint of lavender/pink. Brilliant Violet has a bit more impact on my skin tone, but not by much.

Limited-Edition Mary Kay Eye Palettes

Ahhh – the Mary Kay Eye Palettes ($26 CAD) are so pretty! Each of the palettes is modelled after spring colours highlighting light and airy looks.

The Glistening Horizon palette features four cool tones that are easily wearable on their own or together. This palette would be perfect for an ombré look with its shades of blue, pale blue, purple and champagne. In true Mary Kay form, the shadows are silky smooth, are easily applied and well-pigmented. The darker blue and purple tones made my brown eyes pop, and the champagne colour serves as a great highlighter for the brow bone. For this look, I used the pale blue to brighten the corners of my eyes.

The Sunlight Palette features warm shades of pink, lavender, champagne and taupe. On my skin tone, most of these shades were a bit too light, but perfect as brow bone highlighters. The pink shadow though serves as a fun pink colour that I’ve been using on the centre of my lids to complement a dark browny-pink tone I already have. Very pretty look for spring.

Limited-Edition Mary Kay Nail Lacquer

The Mary Kay Limited Edition Nail Lacquers are my favourites of this collection – manicured hands down.

I’m currently wearing Luminous Mauve, an awesome and poppy light purplish pink that makes me think of the hyacinths that pop up in my garden before anything else. I’ve been rocking this nail colour since Saturday evening and it has not chipped at all. It has managed to survive washing about 26 wine glasses by hand, laundering about 50,000 towels and scrubbing Chihuahua accidents out of my beautiful white carpets (sigh – family was in town recently). Nevertheless, Mary Kay’s nail lacquers are top notch.

Each of the featured colours are highly pigmented and the formulation is so great, you could probably get away with one coat (base coat, two coats of colour and top coat is my recommendation though). The polish is thick and rich and best of all, super shiny.

Brilliant Violet is a darker purplish pink that still pops on all skin tones. It will be perfect for spring summer and is a cool tone that is highly flattering on all skin tones.

Vivid Sunburst is just that, a super vivid orange that reminds me of a glorious Barbadian sunset. Apologies for not including a picture (I blame my dead camera battery). This polish packs a punch! Super bright and happy, I immediately polished my toes with it and smile each time I take off my socks and look at my 10 happy piggies.

New Blue is my jam!!! WHOA. It’s is such a fun and perfect robin’s egg blue. This colour would be great for mixing and matching with Brilliant Violet and Luminous Mauve. This colour is bright, on-trend and looks particularly amazing on neat, short nails, and long nails in coveted shapes such as “coffin nails” or the highly popular pointed almond-shaped nails.

What is your fave product from Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Light, Reinvented Collection? Are you as obsessed with Easter egg colours as I am? Ha!
