Alrighty, everybody. Let’s talk eye creams. For a long time, I was a huge skeptic. I had tried many to resolve the darkness under my eyes to no avail until I decided to do some research and get educated on what products would work for me (and all of you).
Do You Actually Need An Eye Cream?
Well, it can’t hurt to baby the tender skin around your peepers. The skin around your eye is thinner, more sensitive and suffers more easily from issues like puffiness, darkness and fine lines. The area tends to get dehydrated more quickly also due to the fact that there are minimal oil glands around the area. Finding a great eye cream can brighten up your eyes and reduce these concerns.
What To Look For In A Great Eye Cream
Look for a product that is non-irritating, preferably fragrance-free and highly moisturizing. The container the cream is housed in is important too. Opaque tubes, jars and bottles are best as ingredients will degrade when exposed to sun and air.
Some people will benefit from “skin brightening” eye creams which typically contain shimmer which immediately brightens darkness under the eyes.
Lastly, look for a cream that will rapidly absorb into skin. Eye creams which are intended to be used during the day time should absorb quickly in order to not seep into the eye and cause stinging and burning (OUCH!), and allow for better makeup application.
Lancôme Advanced Génifique Yeux Eye Cream
Now, what can you do to minimize your greatest eye area concerns such as puffiness, dark circles and fine lines? I tried Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Yeux eye cream to some noticeable and positive results.
This cream works to protect skin against pollution and fatigue. Its light, gel formulation contains yeast to improve the skin’s structure leaving it bouncy and firm. It also contains a probiotic formula which boosts skin’s barrier. Other noticeable benefits were skin illumination and youth activation. Fine lines seemed to be blurred out with continued use.
I was impressed also at how easily I could apply my concealer after using this effective eye cream. My makeup didn’t settle into fine lines or get dry and flake off. After several weeks of continued use, under-eye darkness was lightened and skin felt firmer and tighter.
The gel cream is great for all skin types and is paraben, sulfate and phthalate-free.
How To Apply Your Eye Cream
The under-eye area is delicate. You need to baby it! No tugging or rushing through your eye cream application…take your time to savour it! Tap a small amount of the eye cream on the orbital bone in a gentle manner right up to your temples. This spreads the cream effectively and boosts circulation therefore increasing skin regeneration. Remember – NO TUGGING! Tugging = wrinkles.
Extra Tips
- Store your eye cream in the refrigerator. Not only will this be super refreshing when you’re applying it, it will further soothe tired, puffy eyes.
- This eye cream will definitely help your makeup go on more smoothly and won’t cause it to settle into fine lines (never a good look).
- If you suffer from dark circles, it may be allergy-related. A visit to the doctor to determine the best course of action will be in order. A good antihistamine can resolve this problem!
Head over to your nearest Lancôme counter to try out Advanced Génifique Yeux. It is a little on the pricey side at CAD $83, but definitely worth every penny!
Girl stop!! I love this product! I bought a slightly different version (can recall the other name) but they are all great for eyes. I was a total skeptic too until I turned “?” lol. I had started to get puffy and some patchiness too. Now they make my eyes feel fresh, alert and soft as the skin there is extremely sensitive. I also love the feeling of treating my eyes to something luxurious. Paying attention to that area is actually quite relaxing. I burn a Lavender/Eucalyptus candle and the aroma with tending to my eyes in the evening before bed, is relaxing. It is so worth it.

“?” Hahaha! Cheryl – you crack me up! Glad you treated yourself to a similar cream. When they work, they are so good! I was tired of wasting money on products that were both expensive and useless. And I love your bedtime routine. We are so alike. I just got a lavender candle and good eye cream! LOL! I wish you were closer. We could really swap some great tips…over wine (s)…hahahaha
Yes! One day we’ll connect for some wine and tips! Absolutely! The candle I have is by DW Home, in a beautiful light green frosted glass with a golden colored top and there is a handle on the top that is oblong glass with a gold ring around it. If you can picture that, it is so beautiful. Now I’m searching other scents in that line as well. I purchased this one at Home Goods.
