Learning to take care of oneself is something a lot of us struggle with. Be it taking the time to slow down and savour life, from finding a moment to complete a simple workout can be a major struggle. The past year for me has been a whirlwind of highs and lows. While so much of 2018 was fantastic and memorable, there were a few low moments that really took the wind out of my sails. This left me with little energy to enjoy some of my favourite things like makeup and skincare.
During one of these lows, I took the time to sit down with a warm cup of tea and think about some small changes I can make to my routine that can make life a little smoother. Some of my favourite things are trying out new makeup or undertaking a new fitness routine, so I scheduled a weekly date with myself to discover new beauty products and get to the gym. That being said, it was important to me to prioritize and stick to these new changes in order to see a real, positive difference. Keep on reading for three tips that helped me incorporate self-care into my beauty and fitness routine that I know will help you too.

A Healthy Diet
Feeling your best starts from within. I know of myself that I feel happier and more energetic when I’m healthy and fortifying my body with nutritious foods. When you’re stressed or pressed for time, it’s easy to reach for fast food or over-indulge in cocktails and wine. The most positive self-care tip I’ve implemented is cleaning up my diet. It was hard cutting out my favourite sugary treats and nightly glass (or two) of wine, but when I did, I felt way better. Incorporating more vegetables and healthy fats such as salmon and nuts also gave me a major boost in energy. I started to sleep better, and my skin really glowed after several weeks of consistent healthy eating.

Daily Supplements
Along with a healthy diet, I have continued to include the Centrum Multigummies Multi+Beauty in my daily beauty routine. It contains 12 nutrients including Vitamins A, C, E and Biotin, and not only does this tasty multivitamin support immune function, eyesight, bone health and energy metabolism, it promotes thicker hair, maintains healthy skin and strengthens nails…which is a major bonus for this beauty blogger.
When do I take my multivitamin? I typically take my Multi+Beauty supplement in the morning while doing my skincare routine. I leave the bottle by my cleansing products to ensure I remember to take it each morning. It’s hard to remember to take vitamins, but incorporating it into my beauty routine has definitely helped, and with its gummy format it’s super easy to take.

A Little Makeup Therapy
During a recent shopping jaunt, I treated myself to a couple of new lipsticks. With this purchase came a free makeover. The makeup artist was a riot, and we spent that hour laughing it up. Best of all, when he handed me a mirror and showed me his finished look, my jaw dropped. I felt beautiful. After giving him a huge hug, I promised myself to do that more often.
I am a sucker for neutral makeup looks. I didn’t even realize that my beloved nude lips, hint of blush and barely-there eyeshadow had gotten a little stale. That day, the makeup artist chose to give me a bright fuchsia lip with a cat-eye so fierce that it took my breath away. I loved this new look so much that I decided to make discovering new makeup looks a priority. Discovering new colours and makeup application tips while having a good laugh was like therapy. It set the tone for the day and not only did I leave feeling gorgeous, I felt more confident!
The simple act of putting on the new makeup I acquired that day is relaxing and I enjoy the morning routine of applying my new beauty finds. There is nothing like starting the day on a bright, gorgeous note!

A Fun Workout = Glowing Skin
Something I noticed with working out is how great it makes my skin look! I’m a runner and I love hitting the trails and getting my sweat on. When I run consistently, my skin gets better leading to a beautiful, healthy glow.
In the past, I would spend hundreds on makeup in an attempt to achieve a healthy, even look, but when I started working out consistently, my acne cleared up and the overall quality of my skin changed for the better. Regular exercise allows the body to sweat out toxins and increase blood circulation, resulting in healthy, dewy skin. This led to me being less reliant on foundations to even out my skin.

Nowadays, not only am I running a 5K personal best, all I need now is a bit of concealer, a swipe of blush, my fave lip gloss and some of my favourite highlighter and voilà – healthy, glowy Dom!
I hope you enjoyed my tips for incorporating self-care into your beauty routine. Remember why you started too. Having a killer beauty routine is great, but adding a solid, healthy self-care routine to your life feeds the soul leading to a much happier, beautiful person!

Thanks a lot. This was some good motivation to get back to self-care. I have been slacking for the past few months; and I feel disappointed with myself.
Beautiful pictures as always 😙😙
