5 Beauty Resolutions To Stick To For 2017

You know why I like beauty resolutions? Because they’re fun, and fun resolutions are way easier to keep as opposed to vowing to work out five times a week and reading 10 books a month for the next year. So, let’s turn our attention to the real important stuff, like achieving the best hair possible, wowing people with flawless skin and warding off crow’s feet for a while longer. Remember also that with all good things, resolutions are best kept when you apply them in moderation considering your lifestyle and balancing them properly with everything else in your hectic life.

Now, let’s read on to find out the best beauty resolutions you’ll want to keep in 2017.

Keeping Your Face Hydrated and Moisturized

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion SPF 30 ($165)
5 Beauty Resolutions To Stick To For 2017

With the indoor heating pumping full blast and bone-chilling conditions outdoors (thanks, Old Man Winter), that pretty face is looking more sandpaper-y than mid-summer glowy. Arm yourself with a great facial moisturizing lotion to ward off flaky, dry skin that worsens the look of fine lines and sagging. A really effective one that I love is Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage Anti Aging Moisture Lotion SPF 30 ($165).

Supremely hydrating, it reduces the look of fine lines, age spots and discolouration while protecting your skin from that winter sun that’s stronger that it looks (80% of skin aging is caused by environmental effects). This lotion boasts Idebenone Ester too, the strongest antioxidant on the market today (preserves happy, glowy skin by boosting cell turnover). With its fresh scent, your mind will no longer focus on snowdrifts, and be fantasizing of the Maldives instead.

Giving Facial Sheet Masks A Go

5 Beauty Resolutions To Stick To For 2017
For Beloved One Hyaluronic Acid GHK-Cu Moisturizing Bio-Cellulose Masks ($110 for 3pcs)

Facial sheet masks have swept the beauty scene. With so many to choose from on the market, it’s hard to narrow down which one is right for you. I’ve been opting for those by For Beloved One, specifically For Beloved One Hyaluronic Acid GHK-Cu Moisturizing Bio-Cellulose Masks ($110). These are particularly great as the masks are made of a bio-cellular material that  looks and feels a little like stiff jello. They mold to your face perfectly, allowing for a better and deeper delivery of product to your skin than those that look and feel like wet paper towel.

Full of GHK-Cu – a copper peptide, these masks speed up healing, reduce inflammation and produce brighter skin. I was shocked the first time I used one of these masks. After three weeks of suffering from walking pneumonia, my skin looked greyish, dull and dry. After using this mask, I saw a hugely noticeable improvement in the suppleness of my skin and the dryness was completely eliminated. One of my own New Year’s Resolutions entails allocating a large part of my salary to buying more of these masks.

Committing To Removing Makeup Each Night Before Bed

5 Beauty Resolutions To Stick To For 2017
Bioderma Sensible H2O Micelle Solution Make-up Removing Wipes

So, you had five too many cocktails at that New Year’s Eve party (10th year in a row that happened), and you’ve fallen asleep face down on your bed, only to wake up to one false eyelash stuck to your forehead, the other one stuck to your mattress, and a perfect makeup face imprint on your pillow. FOR SHAME!!!

Resolve to removing your makeup every single night before going to bed. Your skin will thank you! Without makeup clogging up your pores, you’ll greatly reduce whiteheads, blackheads and give your skin a better chance for effective cell turnover at night (a.k.a stunning, bright skin). Make it easy on yourself: grab Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution Make-Up Removing Wipes and keep them on your bedside table if you know you’ll be turning it up, and one by your sink. A few swipes of these Bioderma Canada lingettes removes makeup quickly and effectively without hurting sensitive skin. These wipes are excellent at removing stubborn eye makeup too (*side glances Chanel black eyeliner*) and the gentle formulation balances skin with soothing ingredients such as allantoine, a gentle astringent that promotes healing, cell proliferation and reduces inflammation.

Bioderma Micellar Solutions (l to r): Hydrabio, Sébium and Sensibio

Bioderma has quite a selection of great micellar solutions to choose from also, but I will be delving into an in-depth review of these later this week. Quickly though, they are all supremely gentle, cleanse beautifully by removing all traces of makeup and dirt and leave you feeling refreshed. I’ve been using the Sébium Micellar Solution for my oily/combination skin after sauna sessions at the gym, and my face is thanking me.

Committing To Healthy, Shiny Hair In The New Year

5 Beauty Resolutions To Stick To For 2017
René Furterer Complexe 5 (US $49 ea)

Everybody loves a healthy head of crowning glory. Make 2017 the year you claim your own. Over two years ago, I embarked on a “hair journey”, vowing to stop killing my hair with too much heat (flat irons and curling irons), trimming my hair on a set schedule and investing in some quality products.

When I tried Rene Furterer’s Complexe 5 Regenerating Hair Oil ($49.00), I died and went to hair heaven. First of all, it smells absolutely amazing of fresh orange and lavender. I get dry scalp in the winter, especially after relaxer treatments on my hair, and the Complexe 5 treatment has helped immensely. A weekly scalp treatment, it strengthens hair from the root and boosts circulation to promote better, healthier hair growth. I noticed that my new hair growth is incredibly shiny and I can prolong the time in between washings, which has been great for reducing hair dryness.

Don’t let the words “hair oil” scare you too. They are hugely beneficial for all hair types. Applied with a lighthand, this product is suitable for any type of hair including fine hair.

Schwarzkopf Bonacure Repair Rescue Deep Nourishing Treatment ($24.00 ea)

In addition, I’ve been deep conditioning my hair with Schwarzkopf Bonacure Repair Rescue Deep Nourishing Treatment ($24.00). It’s the best deep conditioner I have ever used. I’ve been a loyal devotee for years now as it makes my hair shiny and strong while providing a superb detangling quality. I’ve achieved a lot of length with this stellar product. Available at Hairworld in the Merivale Mall (buy one, get one free in January!!!).

Being More Adventurous With Fragrance in 2017

MAC Shadescents
MAC Cosmetics Shadescents in Ruby Woo (red) and My Heroine (purple) – $57.00 ea
MAC Shadescents

I’ll admit that I’m a complete perfume junkie. I love everything about it – how it makes you feel, the memories it evokes, the beautiful bottles…everything. In fact, trying more perfumes in 2017 is one of my own New Year’s Resolutions.

MAC Cosmetics recently debuted their Shade Scents collection ($57.00 ea) with matching lipsticks. Two of my favourites are Ruby Woo (named after their iconic red lipstick) and My Heroine – two bold, gorgeous scents that make a statement.

Ruby Woo is a woody floral with notes of strong leather, and My Heroine is my go-to with its sensual notes of saffron, incense smoke and cordovan leather.

I presented some of these products on CTV Morning Live and here is the segment if you’d like to check it out!

These are great resolutions especially since it allows us to take care of ourselves. I am doing most of these except for the healthy shiny hair part. That I know I really have to work on.

Love all these! I am quite a lazy gal when it comes to beauty routines, but luckily my skin is dry and sensitive so I must take good care of it.
I love Bioderma products! Yves Roches also has lots of amazing vegetal skin care products.

Thanks, Cristina! I love Bioderma too. My skin is so soft after using these products. I don’t have too much experience with Yves Rocher, but I’ve been hearing good things. Thanks for stopping by!

I love these! If I had to pick just one beauty resolution for this year, it would be to use actual soap and water on my face every night instead of just using a make-up wipe. I really have to do better with cleaning my skin.
