I begrudgingly admit that the fall season is gorgeous. The colourful trees, sweater weather, pumpkin patches, Halloween…I guess the autumn season really delivers. While it also ushers in the harsh Canadian winter (save our frozen souls!), I can’t help but welcome the other great thing that autumn signifies – fall fashion.
I’m that person burying her face in the soft cashmere display at Nordstrom in plain view of everyone. I’m that person thrilled to weather chunky sweaters, leather jackets and booties while happily sipping on a salted caramel mochaccino (I don’t do pumpkin spice lattes). I’m also that girl who loves pulling out the spicy, sexy perfumes and dark moody lipsticks that seem to complement the chill in the air so well.
During a recent trip to Nordstrom here in Ottawa, I picked a few great pieces that I’ll be wearing on repeat this fall season. I really wanted a paisley dress, and Nordstrom delivered. I picked up this cute little Sun & Shadow dress which is a myriad of navy, burnt orange, white and olive green colours with flattering shirring across the bust. With its billowy sleeves and flared short skirt, it has a sort of retro Marianne Faithful flare that I am loving right now.
To top it off, I got a wine-coloured topper by Hinge, a great Seattle-based company specializing in really cool hat designs. The hat is beautifully made of soft wool felt and trimmed with pheasant feathers around the brim. Best of all, it’s adjustable! It actually fits my melon-proportioned head! I love the colour t00, a nice departure from black. By the way, if you are ever curious on how to style these vivid fall hats, take 15 mins and just try them all on. You’ll be surprised at how flattering they are and how the go really well with most outfits.
I’ll be heading back to Nordstrom soon to check some more things off my fall fashion list and I’m pretty excited to share my finds with you all. I love getting inspired, so please share what’s on your fall fashion shopping list!
