I love Shoppers Drug Mart. It’s one of my favourite stores of all time. Why, you ask? Because I can get lost in there forever amongst its thousands of great offerings. Many times I have run in only needing Bandaids, and come out with bags full of cosmetics, lotions, potions, groceries, decorations, pet food, etc.
My earliest memories of Shoppers Drug Mart were shopping jaunts with my mom. While she tried out perfumes in the beauty section, I would salivate over their huge offering of jumbo-sized Bonnebell Lipsmakers. As a teenager, my friends and I would congregate at Shoppers after school to buy everything we read about in Teen Magazine, from Malibu Musk to Sea Breeze anti-acne astringent (wow – I’m really dating myself).Well, Shoppers humble beauty section has come a long way, baby. It’s not so much of a “beauty section” anymore as it is a rival to Sephora and the big cosmetics departments of The Hudson Bay Company and Nordstrom. Their beauty selection has increased from the likes of the usual drugstore fare of Revlon and Maybelline to Chanel, Dior, Darphin and Benefit Cosmetics. SCORE!
A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to preview Shoppers Drug Mart’s newest beautyBOUTIQUE located in Ottawa’s Rideau Centre. As I walked up to the new location, I thought I came to the wrong store. It is GORGEOUS. Giant glass walls give passing shoppers a view of the gorgeous Chanel counter stocked with the brand’s entire cosmetic line, Shoppers Drug Mart being the only drugstore globally to carry Chanel, by the way. My heart swelled to also see Dior, Philosophy, Lancome…and Paul & Joe Beauté…a line that I have been looking high and low for!
The store is also equipped with a “skin analysis bar”, where you can have your skin analyzed to see if it is hydrated enough, the extent of sun damage (sigh), etc. Well-trained beauty experts are on hand to recommend the best skincare products for your needs. Talk about service!
Best of all, I can buy all the cosmetics my heart desires and take advantage of Shoppers Drug Mart’s excellent Optimum Points Reward Program – my favourite of all of these store rewards programs. Sephora should take note and overhaul their disappointing Beauty Insider/VIB/VIB Rouge Rewards.
After touring the store, us lucky bloggers were treated to a Paul & Joe Beauté product knowledge session. The brand is known for its ultra feminine packaging with a Korean flair. Paul & Joe Beauté also offers a range of beautiful and interchangeable lipstick and compact cases to switch up the look whenever you feel like it. The range of nail polish colours is really nice along with the lipsticks and glosses. I am dying for the super cute cat-shaped lipsticks!
Of note unfortunately, Paul & Joe Beauté does not carry foundations, concealers or powders for women of colour…a real shame especially in this day and age.
Here are some shots of the media preview for your viewing pleasure! Be sure to check out the new beautyBOUTIQUE at the Rideau Centre! You won’t be disappointed!Have you visited the new beautyBoutiques yet? Let us know how you liked it and what you treated yourself too!
