How Shea Moisture Is Helping Me Maintain My Healthy Relaxed Hair

“Hello. My name is Dominique and I have relaxed hair.”

Yes – I relax my hair and for a long time, I thought I was the only one left who did…and then I dedicated a YouTube video to how to care for relaxed hair and discovered that I wasn’t alone…like, AT ALL. Thousands of people started subscribing to my channel hungry for more tips.

Incredibly grateful for this, I began to create more haircare-related content and with that, learned a ton about haircare myself.

I am incredibly proud to partner up with Shea Moisture, a brand that I have trusted and loved for a long time now. Their sustainably made products which are free of nasties like sulfates, parabens, paraffin, mineral oil, etc. recently released their Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JCBO) Strengthen & Restore Line with Shea Butter & Peppermint. JCBO is already part of my haircare arsenal, so I immediately purchased several products from this line during a trip to the USA last year.

I credit the health of my own hair with regular use of this line of products; therefore, I am sharing with you how this line has helped me maintain strong, healthy relaxed hair.

Firstly, Walmart Canada started carrying the full line which made this well-loved brand a whole lot more accessible, so feel free to pick up a few products to test out!

Secondly, JCBO has been a part of my hair regimen for years now. A thick, viscous oil that is supremely hydrating, I would mix it with my hair masks to create a super-charged, weekly deep conditioning treatment. I’m thrilled that Shea Moisture came out with this JCBO-infused line as I no longer need to mix my own JCBO-infused concoctions!

You can tell that JBCO is working its magic as the Strengthen & Restore Shampoo leaves your hair feeling moisturized and not dried-out and stripped. The Strengthen & Restore conditioner is fantastic too, easily detangling hair and leaving it hydrated and soft, all the while leaving hair bouncy without weighing it down in the least.

Two products from this line that I recently tested out are the Strengthen & Restore Conditioning Design Foam and Blow Dry Créme.

I love easy wash ‘n go styles, especially on hot, summer days. This lightweight conditioning foam provides great definition and hold for those with curly hair, or those who want to tame hair that gets frizzy especially as it air dries. It is also a rock solid setting and wrap lotion for those of you who use curlers for curly hair dos.

When I want to wear my hair long without blow-drying and flat-ironing, I will simply wash and condition my hair, and add a palmful of this foaming, conditioner throughout my damp hair and let it air dry. My hair will dry frizz-free and be touchably soft.

This product has been a game-changer for me, as it has allowed me to greatly reduce my use of heat styling tools during the summer…which in turn leads to healthier, longer, *happier* hair.

The Strengthen & Restore Blow Dry Créme with Shea Butter & Peppermint has made blow drying my long, thick hair faster and more enjoyable instead of the usual epic feat that I used to dread.

This rich styling créme conditions hair while speeding up blow dry time. Fantastic at controlling frizz while protecting against heat damage, it leaves my hair incredibly smooth and shiny.

To use, simply wash and condition your hair as normal, add a small amount to your damp hair and blow dry out. Voilà – gorgeous, silky smooth hair.

Pro tip: the hair at the nape of my neck tends to get frizzy, so I will reapply this créme to that area to define the curls throughout the week. The subtle vanilla scent is lovely and the formulation’s peppermint oil feels tingly and invigorating!

So, that wraps up my first Shea Moisture haircare blog post of the summer. I look forward to reviewing more Shea Moisture products for you all throughout the warm weather season, so be sure to keep an eye on my blog and Instagram! Wishing you all hair happiness!
