The MAC Cosmetics collaboration with Caitlyn Jenner is a collection of really beautiful and elegant shades. The limited edition offering features several favourites such as Whirl and Soar Lip Pencils (Whirl being a favourite of Caitlyn’s daughter Kylie), and a host of other shades that flatter everyone.
I was lucky enough to test out the Whirl Lip Pencil, Malibu Bronze Eye Shadow, Kindness Cremesheen Glass and Buddy Powder Blush Duo, all of which were beautiful and immensely flattering on my chocolate skin tone.
First up, Whirl Lip Pencil. I was late to the game with Whirl. Kylie Jenner made this lip pencil and matching lipstick incredibly popular. So much so that every time I tried to buy it, it was perpetually sold out for about two straight years. I finally got my hands on a set about a year ago and it has become a major favourite in my makeup bag. Whirl can be described as “dirty rose” – a deep pink brown that really highlights my medium dark skin tone. In this picture, I filled in my lips with the lip pencil and added the Kindness Cremesheen Glass lip gloss over it. I have also included a picture of me wearing the Whirl lipstick and lip pencil. It goes with everything thanks to its neutral tone, yet looks great for both day and night looks. I reach for Whirl pretty much every time I rock a smoky eye. It is the perfect complement.
Next, I swatched the Malibu Bronze Eye Shadow and Buddy Powder Blush Duo. The eyeshadow is GORGEOUS. I’m so sorry I didn’t get a chance to show a full makeup look. I was recovering from some dental surgery and looked like I went ten rounds with the devil last week. But TRUST, this bronzy ash-brown colour is so lovely and eye catching, I’ll be wearing it on repeat and will promise to do a follow up post. The eyeshadow has a rich “velux pearl” finish – meaning it has a wonderful shimmer with great, intense colour payoff. I plan on using this in the crease of my lids as it is dark enough for a nice, dramatic effect. It will also look beautiful smudged underneath the eyes.
The Buddy Powder Blush Duo is contour-lover’s dream. Featuring two shades – the bottom half a lovely peachy-pink tone with pearlescent finish, and the top half a rich mid-brown with plummy pink undertones. I contoured my cheeks with the darker brown tone, and then dusted the tops of my cheeks with the peachy-pink, finishing off with a few pops on the apples of my cheeks. The peachy pink colour made my cheeks glow and the darker colour gave me the cheekbones I was born without. Truly beautiful and very easy to use.
Lastly, the Kindness Cremesheen Glass. WOW. Kindness is the most beautiful golden gloss I’ve seen in a long time. Immensely flattering, highly glossy and blessedly non-sticky (great for windy days), it makes me long for the time when lip gloss was super in. It elevates everything I swipe it on, making my Ruby Woo lips look like candy apples, and transforming my Whirl Lip Pencil from perfectly nude to très kissable. I absolutely love this shimmering gloss and it’s possibly my favourite of the collection. I’ll keep you guys posted after I pick up the Tolerance Cremesheen Glass, a fabulous-looking pinky-brown lip gloss with a hint of purple. Looks like it would be a perfect nude gloss for me.
