Fenty Beauty: Is It Worth The Hype?

YES. Yes, Fenty Beauty is worth the hype. I know, I know. I love and worship the ground that Her Majesty Queen Rihanna walks on, so I must be biased, right? Not when it comes to my beauty. Not when most products are in the $40-60 range. While incredibly excited about Rihanna The Great’s beauty line, I walked into Sephora with an objective (yet slightly makeup-induced frenzied) mind.

How I Got My Hands On Fenty Beauty

So, a little background: I figured when the line dropped, there was no way in hell I was going to get my hands on any due to its immense popularity, and I was right. Most products were immediately sold out at Sephora in North America both in-store and online. Luckily for me, I was flying into Marbella, Spain and their Sephora was fully stocked!!!

In fact, I was spurred to go straight to Sephora because when I met with my beautiful cousin Naomi shortly after landing, she was wearing the Fenty Beauty Kilawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule. After interrogating her on her glowy, perfectly pink cheeks, she happily proclaimed that she got her hands on Rihanna’s makeup line. I forced her to drive me immediately to Sephora.

Upon arrival, I had about four simultaneous heart attacks upon seeing that the Marbella store was fully stocked. I dive-rolled for a basket and furiously started filling it with anything and everything Fenty Beauty. My husband later joked that he thought he would have to tase me, I looked so manic. SIGH.

So, what did I get and how did it measure up? Read on!

Fenty Beauty Kilawatt Freestyle Highlighter – Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule

Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule a-poppin’ on my dark skin. LOVE SO MUCH.

Ok – this blush/highlighter duo is the most flattering I have bought in a long time. It warms up my dark skin tone beautifully with its rosy colour with hints of ginger-bronze tones. I’m literally obsessed. I wear it every single day thanks to it complementing my sunkissed Spain skin. Now that the tan has faded, it looks equally beautiful, but its pinky-rosy tones pop that much more.

The formulation is quite nice! Ginger Binge, which is more blush-like, goes on smoothly as its very finely milled. Both Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule are VERY pigmented, with Moscow Mule being more sparkly.

Moscow Mule is a highlighter through and through, and I would apply with a very light hand if you want to wear it during the day. Its formulation is a bit chunkier and highly sparkly. It’s wonderful for a night out and is a breath of fresh air from the typical bronze-gold highlighters I normally wear.

THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! Omg. I would liken this highlighter to what melting a gold bar would be like and smearing it onto your cheeks (if you could withstand the molten lava-like heat).

It is sooo intensely gold, sooo intently pigmented, and soooooo intensely shiny that I busted out laughing when I applied some with my normally heavy hand. I looked like gilded clown.

Like the rest of the powders in Rihanna’s line, it is beautifully milled and soft, and applies very well. It is so gold though, I have no idea how to apply this as a highlighter. On me, it looks like I sprayed on gold paint onto my face. I’m no Pat McGrath, so I gave up. I use it as an eyeshadow – applying extremely lightly only to the corners of my eyes to make them pop. Do I regret buying it at €34?? HELL NO. It’s just too much fun!

Fenty Beauty Matchstix Shimmer SkinStick – Sinamon

This is one of my favourite products in Rihanna’s whole line. I’ve always found it very difficult to find a great highlighter, and this one delivers. It’s the most perfect bronze. Creamy and soft, it’s really easy to apply for a novice like me and lasts all day.
The bronze colour is very flattering on my dark skin tone and I’ve started using it on not only my cheeks, but on my lips and brow bone as well. Beautiful. A definite “re-buy”.

Sooo, this is the only product I regret buying. I purchased it during my admitted frenzy and didn’t stop to consider that this pale lavender highlighter is just too light for my skin tone. It goes on very opalescent – a pale lavender shade that is unicorn-pretty, but just looks ashy on me.
I can get away with it as an eyeshadow, and have used it over lip gloss (very pretty!), but overall, this product just doesn’t do too much for me. In fact, it’s so lavender, I’m not quite sure who this would look good on as a highlighter. Maybe if you are going for “corpse chic”? Ouch! Sorry, Rihanna! Really!!!

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Fenty Glow

That’s the longest lipgloss name known to man. WOW.
This product is one that I will forever own for as long as Rihanna keeps it as part of her line. It is my absolute favourite lipgloss of all time – hands down. It’s rose nude shade? Perfection. The high shine, shimmery glossiness? A breath of fresh air from alllll those matte lipsticks our poor lips have become used too. The fragrance? Peachy-vanilla wonderfulness. It is quite literally the unicorn of all glosses. Best of all, it’s not sticky and leaves your lips nice and soft thanks to its shea butter formulation.
To add to the fan-girling over this bomb lipgloss, the container is big along with the applicator! I love that! Really easy to apply and you get the right amount on the first try. No double, triple-dipping per application! This gloss gives me all the feels!
So, what do you think? Have you tried Fenty Beauty? What was your favourite product? Do tell!

I have not tried it and I have to be honest, I’ve not been as thrilled about it as most have been :-). I’ve seen reviews and make-up tutorial’s using Fenty and I’m not enthused by the color palette. The product seems to have too much shimmer and I’m not a huge fan of shimmering make up unless it’s a summer night out or during the holiday night time party scene. Am I wrong? All of the product seems to have shimmers. However, I do plan to try at least one foundation tick 🙂

Hey Cheryl! YES! I’ve been desperately trying to get my hands on the foundation suitable for my skintone, but it’s been sold out forever! Kind of depressing. And you’re right. If you don’t like shimmer, you might want to move on from this brand.

I still have yet to get my hands some any Fenty Beauty products. I really want to pick up one of the foundations but the darker shades are always sold out in my area. It’s like as soon they come in, they out like hot cakes. I’m hoping they order a boatload for the Christmas sales that are coming up and I can get my hands on some then. Love, love, love your makeup!
